Morphological and molecular redescription of the myxozoanUnicapsula pflugfelderiSchubert, Sprague & Reinboth 1975 from two teleost hosts in the M…
2009
Elongate plasmodia with myxosporean spores belonging to the genus Unicapsula, Davis, 1924 were found in the skeletal muscle of the striped seabream, Lithognathus mormyrus (L.), a candidate for the mediterranean aquaculture. The only species of Unicapsula described from the Mediterranean is Unicapsula pflugfelderi Schubert et al. 1975, which occurs in the picarel, Spicara smaris (L.). For morphological and molecular comparison of U. pflugfelderi from S. smaris with Unicapsula sp. from L. mormyrus measurements of plasmodia and spores, ultrastructural details and 18S and 28S rDNA sequences were analysed. Whereas plasmodia were 2-3 times larger in S. smaris than in L. mormyrus (length 2.47-0.81…

Electrochemical determination of boron in minerals and ceramic materials
2004
Abstract A method for quantitatively determining boron in minerals and ceramic materials is described. It is based on the abrasive attachment of mixtures of ZnO plus sample to PIGEs. After a reductive deposition step, square wave voltammograms recorded for those modified electrodes immersed into 0.10 M NaCl+0.25 M mannitol provide well-defined stripping peaks at −0.85 and −0.15 V vs. AgCl/Ag for the oxidation of Zn and B, respectively. The quotients between the peak areas and the peak currents for the stripping oxidation of B and Zn vary linearly with the molar ratio of B and Zn in the mixture, thus providing an electrochemical method for determining the boron content in solid samples. Resu…
Purification of recovered phosphoric acid by extracting aluminium with di-2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid
2021
AbstractThe extraction of aluminium from dilute phosphoric acid with di-2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid (DEHPA) was optimized using response surface methodology. The optimization was based on the experimental three-level central composite face-centred design (CCF) and was conducted on real-life samples. The three variables included were pH, extractant concentration and aqueous to organic phase ratio (AO). Under the optimized conditions (pH 2.5, 0.6 M DEHPA and AO ratio 1:2), extraction efficiency of 99% for aluminium in four extraction stages is achieved. The purified phosphoric acid solution can then be utilized by the fertilizing industry. Stripping tests for organic phase loaded with alumin…
Maximal Operators with Respect to the Numerical Range
2018
Let $\mathfrak{n}$ be a nonempty, proper, convex subset of $\mathbb{C}$. The $\mathfrak{n}$-maximal operators are defined as the operators having numerical ranges in $\mathfrak{n}$ and are maximal with this property. Typical examples of these are the maximal symmetric (or accretive or dissipative) operators, the associated to some sesquilinear forms (for instance, to closed sectorial forms), and the generators of some strongly continuous semi-groups of bounded operators. In this paper the $\mathfrak{n}$-maximal operators are studied and some characterizations of these in terms of the resolvent set are given.
Reactivity of the ansa-Bridged Metallocene Dichlorides [X(η5-C5H4)2]MCl2 (X = SiMe2, CMe2; M = Mo, W) toward Metallophosphide Anions [PPh2M‘(CO)x]- (…
1997
Two kinds of ansa derivatives, [SiMe2(η5-C5H4)2]MCl2 and [CMe2(η5-C5H4)2]MCl2 (M = Mo, W), are reacted with metallophosphide anions [PPh2M‘(CO)x]- (M‘ = Cr, Mo, W, x = 5; M‘ = Fe, x = 4). The silicon-bridged derivatives give the bimetallic systems [SiMe2(η5-C5H4)(η5-C5H3PPh2M‘(CO)x)]M(H)(Cl), which result from a regioselective substitution at the 3-position on the cyclopentadienyl ligand. In contrast, with the CMe2-bridged compounds, the substitution reaction occurs at the metallic center, giving μ-phosphido bimetallic complexes [CMe2(η5-C5H4)2]M(Cl)(μ-PPh2)M‘(CO)x. The solid-state structure of the bimetallic complex [CMe2(η5-C5H4)2]W(Cl)(μ-PPh2)Fe(CO)4 (7d) is reported.
Mechanical properties and accommodation processes on metallic interfaces
1998
Bimetallic joints Al/Pb, Al/Sn, Pb/Sn, Pb/Pb, etc. with clean interfaces, obtained by a special cold welding method, are used as a model of phase boundaries for investigation of accommodation processes and strength properties of interfaces. To reduce the volume diffusion-induced relaxation processes, investigations were carried out at relatively low temperatures 0.1-0.5 T m . The role of surface diffusion and the effect of phase boundary energy on the healing of micropore ensembles on interfaces was investigated. The accommodation processes on the phase boundaries are considered as a result of mechanoactivation of both the interaction and structure formation of such non-equilibrium systems.…
The pH of the Human Nail Plate
2017
In this chapter, measurements of the nail plate pH are reported. Measurements were conducted in vivo in 37 volunteers with healthy finger- and toenails, using a skin pH meter. The pH of unwashed and washed fin- gernails and the big toenails was measured, and the influence of washing, anatomical site (fin- gers/toes), side (left/right), finger digit (digits 1–5), and gender were determined. The pH of the nail plate surface was around 5. There was no significant difference between the sides, i.e., the right or left hand/foot, among the ten fin- gernails and between the two great toenails. However, toenails had a significantly higher pH than fingernails. Washing the nails caused an immediate, …
Electrochemical identification of metal ions in archaeological ceramic glazes by stripping voltammetry at graphite/polyester composite electrodes
2002
The electrochemical response of metal ions in different samples of coloured ceramic tin-lead glazes attached to graphite/polyester composite electrodes is described. In addition to the ubiquous signals for lead, reductive dissolution processes are followed by anodic stripping peaks for Co, Cu, Sb, Mn, Sn and Fe, enabling the direct identification of such elements in microsamples proceeding from archaeological glazed tiles from Valencia (Spain) workshops (16th-18th century). Additional anodic and cathodic peaks corresponding to redox processes involving metal species in solution generated during stripping processes are also used. Peak potentials, Tafel plots and shape parameters are used for…
Debonding failure mechanisms in prestressed CFRP/epoxy/concrete connections
2014
Abstract This paper presents an investigation on the failure mode in prestress force-release tests of CFRP strips bonded to concrete substrates. Background of the study is the gradient anchorage technique. Firstly, experimental test series are presented. It is shown that considerable differences in failure mechanisms between lap-shear and the before mentioned release tests exist. The study reveals a strong Mode I-influence in the debonding process, compared to a Mode II for lap-shear tests. Secondly, FE simulations with a commercially available software are introduced. It is demonstrated that delamination in a force-release test occurs by a mixed-mode failure over the strip width.
