Investigation on the indentation behavior of sandwich beams using crushable and hyperelastic foam cores
2010
In this work the indentation behaviour of sandwich beams is studied adopting the classical approach representing the core material as a Winkler-type foundation. It is shown how most of the proposed theories can be derived from a general fourth order linear differential equation expressing the equilibrium of the indented beam skin. Different assumptions on the supporting boundary constraints and materials constitutive behaviour, lead to simplifications of the general equation and to the prediction of different indentation features. An extension of the Segment-Wise approach recently proposed in the literature is in particular presented with potential to better simulate foam cores with markedl…
Analysis of the proteins involved in the structure and synthesis of the cell wall of Ustilago maydis
2008
Abstract A study of the proteins involved in the synthesis and structure of the cell wall of Ustilago maydis was made by in silico analysis of the fungal genome, with reference to supporting experimental evidence. The composition of the cell wall of U. maydis shows similarities with the structural composition of the walls of Ascomycetes, but also shows important differential features. Accordingly, the enzymes involved in the synthesis of the U. maydis wall polysaccharides chitin and β-1,6 glucans displayed some differential characteristics. The most salient difference in protein composition was the predicted absence of Pir proteins, an important class of proteins present in the Ascomycetes.…
Mo-Based Oxidizers as Powerful Tools for the Synthesis of Thia- and Selenaheterocycles.
2019
A highly efficient synthetic protocol for the synthesis of thia- and selenaheterocycles has been developed. By employing a MoCl5 -mediated intramolecular dehydrogenative coupling reaction, a broad variety of structural motifs was isolated in yields up to 94 %. The electrophilic key transformation is tolerated by several labile moieties like halides and tertiary alkyl groups. Due to the use of disulfide or diselenide precursors, a high atom efficiency was achieved.
Distribution of volatile organic compounds in Sicilian groundwaters analysed by head space-solid phase micro extraction coupled with gas chromatograp…
2008
This work presents the results of an assessment of the existence and concentration of 13 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in groundwaters from 14 hydrological basins in Sicily (25,710km (2)). On the basis of hydrological, hydrogeochemical and geological studies, 324 sampling points were selected. All groundwater sampled were collected twice, from October to December 2004 and from February to May 2005, and were analysed to determine the concentration and spatial distribution of the VOCs in the aquifers. The need to analyze a large number of samples in a short space of time so as to obtain quantitative analyses in trace concentration levels spurred us to create a new analytical method, both …
Studies of Nature of Uncommon Bifurcated I–I···(I–M) Metal-Involving Noncovalent Interaction in Palladium(II) and Platinum(II) Isocyanide Cocrystals
2021
Two isostructural trans-[MI2(CNXyl)2]·I2 (M = Pd or Pt; CNXyl = 2,6-dimethylphenyl isocyanide) metallopolymeric cocrystals containing uncommon bifurcated iodine···(metal–iodide) contact were obtained. In addition to classical halogen bonding, single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed a rare type of metal-involved stabilizing contact in both cocrystals. The nature of the noncovalent contact was studied computationally (via DFT, electrostatic surface potential, electron localization function, quantum theory of atoms in molecules, and noncovalent interactions plot methods). Studies confirmed that the I···I halogen bond is the strongest noncovalent interaction in the systems, followed …

Crystal Structures and Thermal Behavior of Bis(dibenzyldimethylammonium) Tetrabromometallates(II) [M = Mn(II), Co(II) and Zn(II)] and Their Solvates
2007
Six new A2MBr4 structures [A = dibenzyldimethylammonium cation,M = Mn(II), Co(II) or Zn(II)] were crystallized with or without solvent molecules from acetonitrile, methanol and/or aqueous solutions. The isomorphous compounds [(Bz2Me2N)2][MnBr4]·CH3CN·H2O (1) and [(Bz2Me2N)2]-[ZnBr4]·CH3CN·H2O (4) crystallize in the triclinic space group P1̄ from acetonitrile solutions. The solvent molecules participate in the hydrogen bonding network inside the crystal structure. [(Bz2Me2N)2][CoBr4]·0.5CH3CN (2) crystallizes from an acetonitrile solution in the monoclinic space group P21/c. The solvent molecules fill the voids of the crystal structure. Compound 2 is isostructural with the previously reporte…
Contributions to the application of the transferability principle and the multipolar modeling of H atoms: electron-density study of L-histidinium dih…
2006
The electron density of L-histidinium dihydrogen orthophosphate orthophosphoric acid has been determined from X-ray and neutron diffraction data at low temperature (120 K). Topological analysis of the electron density has been used to analyse the effect of the multipolar refinement strategy on the electron-density model in the hydrogen-bonding regions. The electron density at low temperature has also been used to acquire high-quality experimental thermal parameters at room temperature using the transferability principle. Molecular vibrations, TLS and normal mode analysis are discussed and studied at both temperatures.
Unequivocal determination of isomeric products of reaction between 3-methyl-1-phenyl-2-pyrazoline-4,5-dione and aromatic 1,2-diamines
1999
Abstract Regioselectivity of condensation of 3-methyl-1-phenyl-2-pyrazoline-4,5-dione with aromatic 1,2-diamines is dependent on substituent present. Isomeric 3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazolo-[3,4-b]-quinoxaline products are distinguished by comparison of their 2D z-gradient selected 1H, 15N HMBC (Heteronuclear Multiple Bond Correlation) spectra. Multiplicity of H5 signal, which is recognizable by the cross-peak for CH3(3)-N4 and H5-N4 interactions, indicates substitution in position 6 or 7. The applied method is expected to be useful for structure determinations in other positional isomers.
ChemInform Abstract: Regio- and Stereoselective Synthesis of Spiropyrrolizidines and Piperazines Through Azomethine Ylide Cycloaddition Reaction.
2016
A series of original spiropyrrolizidine derivatives has been prepared by a one-pot three-component [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction of (E)-3-arylidene-1-phenyl-pyrrolidine-2,5-diones, l-proline, and the cyclic ketones 1H-indole-2,3-dione (isatin), indenoquinoxaline-11-one and acenaphthenequinone. We disclose an unprecedented isomerization of some spiroadducts leading to a new family of spirooxindolepyrrolizidines. Furthermore, these cycloadducts underwent retro-1,3-dipolar cycloaddition yielding unexpected regioisomers. Upon treatment of the dipolarophiles with in situ generated azomethine ylides from l-proline or acenaphthenequinone, formation of spiroadducts and unusual polycyclic fused pip…
