In the frame of the EUROfusion research activities devoted to the design of the DEMO breeding blanket (BB), the Water-Cooled Lithium-Lead BB (WCLL) concept is one of the candidates currently assessed in EU. Abstract Titanium dioxide samples were prepared in the presence of different amounts of fluorine via hydrothermal method. It has been found that the presence of fluoride influenced the physico-chemical properties of TiO2 in various ways as polymorphic form stability, surface hydroxylation, generation of hydroxyl radicals under irradiation and formation of Ti3+ centers and oxygen vacancies. The generation rate of OH radicals was investigated by the photoluminescence technique in the presence of terephthalic acid. X-ray diffractometry indicated that fluorine stabilized the anatase TiO2. Abstract Thin TiO 2 films were prepared with the dip-coating technique by using sols deriving from titanium tetraisopropoxide. TiO 2 films were formed on glass substrates previously covered by a SiO 2 layer obtained from a tetraethylortosilicate sol. The films, after a thermal treatment at 673 K, mainly consisted of TiO 2 anatase. The samples were characterised by X-ray diffraction, UV–Vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. 29 pages; International audience; We analyse tectonic and sedimentary field and subsurface data for the Angola onshore margin together with free-air gravity anomaly data for the offshore margin. This enables us to characterize the mode of synrift tectonism inherited from the Precambrian and its impact on the segmentation of the Angola margin. We illustrate that segmentation by the progressive transition from the Benguela transform-rifted margin segment to the oblique-rifted South Kwanza and orthogonal-rifted North Kwanza margin segments. The preparation of a series of dibenzo- and tetrabenzo-fused fluoreno[3,2-b]fluorenes is disclosed, and the diradicaloid properties of these molecules are compared with those of a similar, previously reported series of anthracene-based diradicaloids. Insights on the diradical mode of delocalization tuning by constitutional isomerism of the external naphthalenes has been explored by means of the physical approach (dissection of the electronic properties in terms of electronic repulsion and transfer integral) of diradicals. The new protein carrier was developed on the basis of recombinant RNA phage Qbeta capsid. C-terminal UGA extension of the short form of Qbeta coat, so-called A1 extension, served as a target for presentation of foreign peptides on the outer surface of mosaic Qbeta particles. In conditions of enhanced UGA suppression, the proportion of A1-extended to short coats in mosaic particles dropped from 48% to 14%, with an increase of the length of A1 extension. A model insertion, short preS1 epitope 31-DPAFR-35 of hepatitis B surface antigen, demonstrated superficial location on the mosaic Qbeta particles and ensured specific antigenicity and immunogenicity.

AbstractTocopherol is believed to be the most potent naturally occurring chain-breaking antioxidant. Hence, its refined phenolic head group chromanol may represent an optimum evolutionary solution to the problem of free-radical chain reactions in the lipid bilayer. To test the universal validity of this assumption beyond phenolic head groups, we have synthesized aromatic amine analogues of vitamin E and trolox with otherwise closely matching physicochemical properties: NH-toc and NH-trox. We have found that NH-toc and NH-trox were significantly more potent free radical scavengers, lipid peroxidation inhibitors and cytoprotective agents than their phenolic templates, tocopherol and trolox.
