Some Features of Modeling Ultrasound Propagation in Non-Destructive Control of Metal Structures Based on the Magnetostrictive Effect
2023
A method and mathematical models of direct and inverse problems of ultrasonic testing and diagnostics of complex metal structures for defects were developed and tested. A prototype of a system for magnetostrictive control of elements of the objects under study was manufactured and experimentally tested. Mathematical simulation of ultrasonic testing processes using MATLAB and the COMSOL Multiphysics software environment was carried out. The adequacy of the mathematical models was verified by the results of their comparison with real physical experiments. Information support and a methodology that implements it was developed, which ensure the functioning of the control facilities for these ob…
Janus Nanostructures from ABC/B Triblock Terpolymer Blends
2019
Lamella-forming ABC triblock terpolymers are convenient building blocks for the synthesis of soft Janus nanoparticles (JNPs) by crosslinking the B domain that is &ldquo
Strategic alignment of business network forms and single companies’ objectives
2009
In this paper the most significant theories on firm networking are reviewed and an innovative strategic perspective that underlies at firm network organization is proposed. It is argued that networks are differently organized according to three basic strategic objectives: gaining efficiency, collecting knowledge, pursuing globalization. The research is supported by secondary data analysis based on a sample of about 115 case studies published in different journals and magazines.
Flexural Test on a Full-Scale 60-kW Wind Turbine-Tower Telescopic Steel Pipe
2019
A full-scale static test to failure was conducted on 6-m (236.22 in.)-long steel pipes constituting a segment of a telescopic wind tower with a 60-kW wind turbine. The diameter of the circular cross section of the steel pipes was 900 mm (35.43 in.), and the nominal thickness was 10 mm (0.39 in.). The steel grade was 355 MPa (51,488 psi). The tests were conducted in a force-controlled mode in a four-point bending test with a shear-to-span ratio of 2.05. The flexural limit states developed in the form of ovalization of the cross section and of local buckling. The buckling occurred in the plastic range because of the diameter-to-thickness ratio of the section. Although local buckling caused sl…
Synthetic Inhibitors of Cell Adhesion: A Glycopeptide from E-Selectin Ligand 1 (ESL-1) with the Arabino Sialyl Lewisx Structure
2001
Particularly selective methods are required for the synthesis of arabino sialyl Lewisx glycopeptides owing to the acid-labile β-arabinopyranoside bond. It is important for the inhibition of cell adhesion that the arabino sialyl Lewisx glycopeptide 1, which contains the Gly 672 -Asp 681 sequence of the E-selectin Ligand 1 (ESL-1), binds ten times more strongly than sialyl Lewisx to E-selectin, although it is monovalent and does not contain L-fucose, which is considered essential.
Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Nanodots-Ionogels: Preparation, Characterization, and Radical Scavenging Activity
2018
Hybrid diimidazolium-based ionogels were obtained by dispersing nitrogen-doped carbon nanodots (NCNDs) in ionic liquid (IL) solutions and by using dicationic organic salts as gelators. The properties of the NCND-ionogels were studied in terms of thermal stability, mechanical strength, morphology, rheological, and microscopic analyses. Insights into the formation of the hybrid soft material were attained from kinetics of sol-gel phase transition and from estimating the size of the aggregates, obtained from opacity and resonance light-scattering measurements. We demonstrate that, on one hand, NCNDs were able to favor the gel formation both in the presence of gelating and nongelating ILs. On t…

No room for males in caves : Female‐biased sex ratio in subterranean amphipods of the genus Niphargus
2021
Sex allocation theory predicts that the proportion of daughters to sons will evolve in response to ecological conditions that determine the costs and benefits of producing each sex. All else being equal, the adult sex ratio (ASR) should also vary with ecological conditions. Many studies of subterranean species reported female-biased ASR, but no systematic study has yet been conducted. We test the hypothesis that the ASR becomes more female-biased with increased isolation from the surface. We compiled a dataset of ASRs of 35 species in the subterranean amphipod Niphargus, each living in one of three distinct habitats (surface-subterranean boundary, cave streams, phreatic lakes) representing …
The use of morphokinetics as a predictor of embryo implantation.
2011
Background Time-lapse observation presents an opportunity for optimizing embryo selection based on morphological grading as well as providing novel kinetic parameters, which may further improve accurate selection of viable embryos. The objective of this retrospective study was to identify the morphokinetic parameters specific to embryos that were capable of implanting. In order to compare a large number of embryos, with minimal variation in culture conditions, we have used an automatic embryo monitoring system. Methods Using a tri-gas IVF incubator with a built-in camera designed to automatically acquire images at defined time points, we have simultaneously monitored up to 72 individual emb…
