Fundamento El gen de la apolipoproteina E (apoE) presenta tres variantes comunes (alelos ɛ2, ɛ3, ɛ4), cuya frecuencia alelica y asociacion con los lipidos plasmaticos varia segun las poblaciones. Family Register in British English: The First Approach to its Systematic Study

The present study looks into an unexplored area of research as it is the family register. An alternative to recording family conversations is the use of popular TV series, as their success lies in the audience s identification with their characters and their communicative style. This work analyses two highly popular series in UK. The results suggest that this register has its own communicative richness and internal variation, the knowledge of which may be of great help for students and professionals travelling to English-speaking countries and living or relating with native speakers in family environments.
Finnish and UK English pre-teen children's text message language and its relationship with their literacy skills

The aim of the study was to demonstrate the style of text language used by Finnish pre-teen texters (n = 65) and determine how their text language related to their traditional literacy skills, and compare descriptively these results with earlier results from work with young English texters. Three kinds of text messages (natural texts, elicited texts and elicited replies) were recorded after cognitive and literacy skills were assessed. Relationships between text language and standard literacy skills were shown to be different between the two languages, and we propose that those differences arise from both the structures of the languages themselves, and the communities of linguistic practice …

Abstract There is a broad set of concept mapping tasks which can be used by teachers for assessing students’ knowledge structures but there are no known works of research studying their adaptation to students’ individual differences and preferences in relation to different tasks. The paper reports first results of activities which aim to offer a solution of the abovementioned problem. It is based on extensive review of theoretical and empirical studies and focuses on: a) identification of advantages and drawbacks of different concept mapping tasks, and b) finding factors which may affect students’ concept mapping ability.

Sedentarism is a serious health concern in industrialized countries throughout the world. We examined whether a text message-based intervention, targeted at increasing daily levels of physical activity, would be more effective than a standard psychoeducational intervention and a control condition. Surveys on life and health conditions of university students besides providing useful epidemiologic data partly related to the young population. They are potentially useful for the intervention planning aimed to remove possible environmental or behavioural risk factors.
