Physical vapor deposition of Bi2S3 as absorber material in thin film photovoltaics
2013
Abstract In order to investigate alternative absorber materials for inorganic solar cells, thin films of bismuth trisulfide (Bi2S3) were deposited under high vacuum conditions by the thermal evaporation method from compound material. The effects of the substrate temperature during deposition on the structural, stoichiometric, optical and electrical properties were investigated. Polycrystalline thin films close to an ideal stoichiometry could be deposited for temperatures TSub = 80–290 °C; thereby a transition from rough needle-shaped particles with (hk0)-orientation parallel to the surface of the substrate towards block shaped grains with a preferred direction out of the surface could be ob…
Acousto-plasmonic coupling in engineered metal nanocomposites
2010
This work shows the production of self-assembled elongated nano-objects embedded in an oxide host oriented perpendicular to the substrate and their acousto-plasmonic dynamics. Electromagnetic “hot spots” are created that activate anomalous Raman vibrational modes.
Transparent conductive oxide photonic crystals on textured substrates
2011
Three-dimensional ZnO:Al photonic crystals were fabricated by atomic layer deposition on highly textured substrates. It turns out that these inverted opals consist of a thin intermediate disordered layer close to the textured substrate followed by a highly-ordered photonic crystal layer. The photonic crystals themselves exhibit comparable optical properties to those on planar substrates.
Structural characterization of relaxor ferroelectric PbMg 1/3 Nb 2/3 O 3 -PbTiO 3 thin film heterostructures deposited by pulsed laser ablation
2000
Highly oriented and epitaxial films of relaxor ferroelectric PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3-PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) with a composition (68/32) near the morphotropic phase boundary were deposited by pulsed laser ablation on La0.5Sr0.5CoO3 bottom electrodes, deposited on MgO (100) and LaAlO3 (100). The formation of crystalline phases, epitaxy, film–electrode–substrate orientation relationships and crystal perfection were studied by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The structural properties were found to depend on the deposition conditions and substrate. Correlation of both the dielectric and relaxor properties in the heterostructures and the structural properties of the PMN-PT films was observed.
Schottky barrier height tuning by Hybrid organic-inorganic multilayers
2014
ABSTRACTSemiconducting and insulating polymers and copolymers/Au nanograins based hybrid multilayers (HyMLs) were fabricated on p-Si single-crystal substrate by an iterative method that involves, respectively, Langmuir-Blodgett and spin-coating techniques (for the deposition of organic film) and sputtering technique (for the deposition of metal nanograins) to prepare Au/HyMLs/p-Si Schottky device. The electrical properties of the Au/HyMLs/p-Si Schottky device were investigated by current-voltage (I–V) measurements in the thickness range of 1-5 bilayers (BL).At different number of layers, current-voltage (I–V) measurements were performed. Results showed a rectifying behavior. Junction parame…
Selective growth and optical properties of sputtered BaTiO3films
2000
we report the growth of BaTiO 3 thin films by standard Radio Frequency sputtering. Without any in situ or post annealing, these polycristalline films are oriented relative to the substrate even when it is amorphous. We show that this preferential orientation may be monitored using a DC Bias during the film growth. At room temperature, cubic films of (100) and (110) orientations have been achieved, on fused silica substrate. Some optical waveguiding properties of these films have been studied. The resulting film index is 2.26 and the optical step index at the substrate interface is sharp. This allows the use of standard RF sputtering techniques to monitor oriented BaTiO 3 films for linear op…
Photoemission of spinpolarized electrons from strained GaAsP
1996
Strained layer GaAs.95P.05 photo cathodes are presented, which emit electron beams spinpolarized to a degree of P = 75% typically. Quantum yields around QE = 0.4% are observed routinely. The figure of merit P2 × QE = 2.3 × 10−3 is comparable to that of the best strained layer cathodes reported in literature. The optimum wavelength of irradiating light around 830 nm is in convenient reach of Ti:sapphire lasers or diode lasers respectively. The cathodes are produced using MOCVD-techniques. A GaAs.55P.45-GaAs.85P.15 superlattice structure prevents the migration of dislocations from the substrate and bottom layers to the strained overlayer. The surface is protected by an arsenic layer so that n…
Focusing of surface-acoustic-wave fields on (100) GaAs surfaces
2003
Focused surface-acoustic waves (SAWs) provide a way to reach intense acoustic fields for electro- and optoacoustic applications on semiconductors. We have investigated the focusing of SAWs by interdigital transducers (IDTs) deposited on (100)-oriented GaAs substrates. The focusing IDTs have curved fingers designed to account for the acoustic anisotropy of the substrate. Different factors that affect focusing, such as the aperture angle and the configuration of the IDT fingers, were systematically addressed. We show that the focusing performance can be considerably improved by appropriate choice of the IDT metal pads, which, under appropriate conditions, create an acoustic waveguide within t…
<title>Properties of ITO transparent electrode thin films on different substrates</title>
2003
Indium tin oxide (ITO) is optically transparent semiconductor that finds extensive applications in liquid crystal displays, photovoltaic cells, touch screen displays, electrochromic smart windows and more. As with all such electrode materials, there is a compromise between conductivity and optical properties. Different substrate materials and underlying layers are playing important role in transparency (better contrast and less absorption, increased brightness), surface morphology (smoothness, homogeneously) and conductivity of the ITO films. We compared optical, electrical and morphology properties of ITO films onto polymer substrate, obtained from company "SIDRABE Inc." (Latvia) and ITO f…
