Advances in the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) pathogenesis have resulted in the development of a treatment approach which has become a model of targeted therapy in oncology. Application of a genetic algorithm in calibration of traffic microsimulation models

This chapter describes the genetic algorithm-based calibration procedure for a microscopic traffic simulation model focusing on freeways and modern roundabouts. For both case studies, the genetic algorithm tool in MATLAB® was applied in order to reach the convergence between the outputs from Aimsun microscopic simulator and the observed data. The automatic interaction with Aimsun software was implemented through an original external Python script. Synthesis and biological evaluation of antimalarial and antileukemic activity of new C-10 modified artemisinin derivatives

Abstract Several non-acetal artemisinin derivatives were synthesized and their antimalarial activity against chloroquine-resistant parasites as well as their antileukemic activity were investigated. The azide 10 was proved to have slightly better activity than the current antimalarial drugs such as artesunate and chloroquine. In addition, the azide 10 and the aldehyde 7 were found to be effective in decreasing cell proliferation in leukemia cells.

Determination of unsaturation grade and trans isomers generated during thermal oxidation of edible oils and fats by FTIR

Abstract The oxidative deterioration of culinary oils and fats during episodes of heating associated with normal usage (80°C–300°C, 20–40 min) was monitored by FTIR spectroscopy. The thermal oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids during heating was studied by the determination of unsaturation percentage and trans isomers at various temperatures and heating times. The oxidative deterioration of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in culinary oils and fats during episodes of heating associated with normal usage (80-300 degrees C, 20-40 min) has been monitored by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The thermal oxidation of PUFAs is a free radical chain reaction, in which hydroperoxides are generally recognized as the primary major products. Hydroperoxides of PUFAs are easily decomposed into a very complex mixture of secondary products with the decrease in unsaturation. Die Cycloaddukte werden mit hohen Ausbeuten im Multigrammasstab und mit Diastereomerenverhaltnissen (bis zu 93:7) gebildet, die mit anderen chiralen Aminen bisher nicht erreicht werden konnten.
