Power monitoring in dielectric-loaded plasmonic waveguides with internal Wheatstone bridges

We report on monitoring the mode power in dielectric-loaded surface plasmon polariton waveguides (DLSPPWs) by measuring the resistance of gold electrodes, supporting the DLSPPW mode propagation, with internal (on-chip) Wheatstone bridges. The investigated DLSPPW configuration consisted of 1-μm-thick and 10-μm-wide cycloaliphatic acrylate polymer ridges tapered laterally to a 1-μm-wide ridge placed on a 50-nm-thin and 4-um wide gold stripe, all supported by a ~1.7-µm-thick Cytop layer deposited on a Si wafer. Interactions between aroma compounds and beta-lactoglobulin in the heat-induced molten globule state

 ; he present study aims to elucidate the binding of small hydrophobic ligands onto the molten globule state of β-lactoglobulin (BLG). The conversion of the native BLG into a molten globule state was induced by heat treatment at acidic pH. Surface properties of Saccharomyces cerevisiae lees during sparkling wine ageing and their effect on flocculation

Cell surface properties were determined for the first time for lees of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and they proved to be significantly dependent on the time of sparkling wine ageing on lees. Cell surface hydrophobicity decreased from approximately 44% to 11% of affinity to hexadecane. Electron acceptor capacity (calculated as % affinity to ethyl acetate-% affinity to decane) increased from approximately -27% to 10 % and zeta potential from approximately -4 to 6mV. Mannoproteins are released from the external cell wall layer during the autolytic process, as confirmed by TOF-SIMS analysis of the cell wall chemical composition. Experimental investigation of the relation between H− negative ion density and Lyman-α emission intensity in a microwave discharge

International audience; A new mechanism for producing negative ions in low density and low power hydrogen plasmas was proposed recently. It refers to anion formation due to collisions between hydrogen atoms being in the first excited state. The proposed mechanism was indirectly supported by the quadratic relation observed between the extracted negative ion current and Lyman-α radiation of a filament-driven arc discharge, when borrowed data from the literature were combined. The present work provides experimental data comparing directly the absolute negative ion density and Lyman-α radiation in an ECR-driven hydrogen plasma source. A comparative account of quantum dynamics of the H+ + H2 reaction at low temperature on two different potential energy surfaces

Rotationally resolved reaction probabilities, integral cross sections, and rate constant for the H+ + H2 (v = 0, j = 0 or 1) → H2 (v′ = 0, j′) + H + reaction are calculated using a time-independent quantum mechanical method and the potential energy surface of Kamisaka et al. [J. Chem. Phys.116, 654 (2002)] (say KBNN PES). All partial wave contributions of the total angular momentum, J, are included to obtain converged cross sections at low collision energies and rate constants at low temperatures. Atmospheric correction for land surface temperature using NOAA-11 AVHRR channels 4 and 5

Abstract In this work, a theoretical model that permits relating the land surface temperature with the temperatures measured by thermal infrared sensors has been developed. The model has been derived by linearization of Planck's function and atmospheric trasmittance. In this way a split-window equation is obtained, which depends on atmospheric water vapor, viewing angle, and channel surface emissivities. Simulations of satellite measurements of land surface temperatures are made using the atmospheric transmittance-radiance model LOWTRAN-7 for NOAA-11 AVHRR Channels 4 and 5.
