This Article addresses the formation of chiral supramolecular structures in the organogels derived from chiral organogelator 1R (or 2R), and its mixtures with its enantiomer (1S) and achiral analogue 3 by extensive circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopic measurements. Morphological analysis by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were complemented by the measurements of their bulk properties by thermal stability and rheological studies. Optical tweezing electrophoresis of isolated, highly charged colloidal spheres

Abstract We report on a novel optical tweezing experiment measuring the electrophoretic mobility μ of highly charged spherical particles suspended in water at volume fractions Φ≤2×10 −7 . At deionised conditions μ =2.5×10 −8 m 2 V −1 s −1 , it decreases further upon increasing the salt concentration c . We compare our data to measurements at larger Φ, where generally much larger μ and a qualitatively different dependence on the salt concentration are observed. To characterise the dependence on Φ we performed measurements at no added salt. α,ω-Functionalized poly-N-isopropylacrylamides: controlling the surface activity for vesicle adsorption by temperature

The synthesis of alpha,omega-end-functionalized copolymers of N-isopropylacrylamide and N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)acrylamide was performed. Monomer ratios of 100:0, 96:4, and 81:19 were investigated. The lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of these polymers was determined by cloud-point measurements and by microcalorimetric measurements. The LCST increased from 32 over 37 to 47 degrees C as the hydrophobicity increased with increasing amount of comonomer N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)acrylamide. High-Performance Electron-Transporting Polymers Derived from a Heteroaryl Bis(trifluoroborate)

In this communication, we report that dipotassium aryl bis(trifluoroborate)s make stable and easy-to-purify yet reactive monomers under Suzuki polycondensation reactions. A bis(trifluoroborate) of 2-alkylbenzotriazole was prepared successfully and copolymerized with dibromobenzothiadiazole in the presence of a Pd catalyst and LiOH, yielding high molecular weight conjugated polymers. Recycling of dry and wet polyamide 6

Recycling of polycondensation polymers can give rise to secondary materials with good mechanical properties only if a careful drying is carried out before the melt reprocessing operations. The presence of humidity provokes the hydrolytic chain scission of the macromolecules and the consequent decrease of molecular weight and properties. In this work, the drying step was substituted by the addition of an antioxidant that is able to protect the macromolecules because it is the autioxidant is more prone to hydrolysis, thus removing the water from the melt. Abstract Air conditioning and dehumidifying systems based on sorption on solids are of great interest, especially in humid climates, because they allow reduction of thermal loads and use of chlorofluorocarbons. Previous studies have shown that hydrophilic polymers such as sulfonic polymers can have very high performance in water adsorption from air. The aim of this study was to characterize the water vapor adsorption properties of fully sulfonated and monosulfonated poly(styrenesulfonic acid), sodium salt, and to elucidate the mechanism of adsorption on these materials. Effective conductivity in association with model structure and spatial inhomogeneity of polymer/carbon black composites

The relationship between effective conductivity and cell structure of polyethylene/carbon composites as well as between effective conductivity and spatial distribution of carbon black are discussed. Following Yoshida's model both structures can, in a way, be said to be intermediate between the well known Maxwell-Garnett (MG) and Bruggeman (BR) limiting structures. Using TEM photographs on composites with various carbon blacks we have observed that the larger is Garncarek's inhomogeneity measure H of two-dimensional (2D) representative distribution of the carbon black, the smaller is the effective conductivity of the composite.

Patterning of Conducting Polymers Using UV Lithography: The in-Situ Polymerization Approach

We report on the in-situ polymerization of 3T with Cu(ClO4)2 inside several host polymers such as Novolak-based negative-tone photoresist, polystyrene (PS), poly(4-vinylphenol) (P4VP), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), and poly(4-vinylphenol)-co-(methyl methacrylate) (P4VP-co-MMA) to form an interpenetrating polymer network (IPN). Conducting IPN films in the order of 10–4–150 S/cm are obtained depending on the specific IPN composition. Electrochromic Performances of Poly(Azure A) Films from Digital Video-Electrochemistry (DVEC)

Poly(Azure A) (PAA) films doped with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) were grown on transparent indium tin oxide (ITO) glass substrates by cyclic voltammetry. The electrochromism of PAA was investigated by digital video-electrochemistry (DVEC). DVEC consists of the acquisition of sequential digital images during the electro-stimulated changes of PAA color. The evolution of red, green, and blue (R, G, B) colors intensity (I) of analyzed pixels provides enough sensitivity to detect changes of some nmol cm−2 of electroactive centers.
