Measurement of Low Concentration of Nanosized Objects Suspended in a Liquid Medium

The new optical scheme of refractometer with temperature stabilisation 10-2 °C is developed, which allows measuring a refractive index of the sample with accuracy not worse than 10-5; dependence of refraction index on concentration of SiO2 nanoparticles in liquid suspension is obtained within the framework of the research.

Simulations of the structure and rheology of wet webs

In this Thesis we modified a recently introduced model for fiber suspensions to be applicable to wet fiber networks so as to analyze by computer simulations their structural and rheological properties. These properties were compared, under tensile loading in particular, to those of wet and dry paper. The model used operated at the fiber level, where the dynamics of fiber motion were determined by fiber stiffness and fiber-fiber interactions such as friction and adhesive forces. Water surface tension, inter-fiber contact area, and moisture content all contributed to the latter force. Two important judgments of the Consiglio di Stato (Italy) allow revisiting general institutions relating to the primacy of EU law and the instruments that guarantee its application in national law. Among others are the direct effect of the directives, the need for a preliminary ruling, and the so-called double preliminary ruling. Finally, the essay highlights some critical issues regarding the limits of the non-application of the law, the overcoming of the res judicata, and the temporary suspension of the ousting effect of a rule of EU law by national courts.

Unbaffled stirred tanks are seldom employed in the process industry as they are considered poorer mixers than baffled tanks. Strain hardening in liquid-particle suspensions

The behavior of a liquid-particle suspension induced to sheared motion was analyzed by numerical simulations. When the velocity (strain) of the suspension began to increase, its viscosity first stayed almost constant, but increased then rapidly to a clearly higher level. This increase in viscosity is shown to be related to formation of clusters of suspended particles. Clusters are shown to increase the viscosity by enhanced momentum transfer though clustered particles. This is the mechanism behind the strain-hardening phenomenon observed in small-strain experiments on liquid-particle suspensions.
