Promoting Food Waste Reduction at Primary Schools. A Case Study
2021
Food waste (FW) has recently attracted the interest of different institutions and has been the focus of many studies due to its important environmental, social and economic impact. This paper aims to analyze whether a didactic intervention, consisting of informing teachers and pupils and involving pupils in reducing FW, could bring about changes in the level of knowledge and attitude towards FW and in the amount of FW generated during the mid-morning break and lunch at schools. This study was conducted at a public Primary School in Valencia (Spain). Subtle changes in the level of knowledge and attitude towards FW were detected in teachers and pupils after the intervention. Around 30% of FW …
Balance with logic-measuring the performance and sustainable development efforts of an NPO in rural Ethiopia.
2021
The analysis of performance of Not-for-profit organisations (NPOs) is difficult because there are several objectives and perspectives to NPO performance and accountability, especially if considered sustainably and in long term. This suggests that performance analysis and measurement of NPOs might also involve multiple perspectives, such as in Balanced Scorecard (BSC) or in the Logical Framework (LF) models. This article is a case study of analysing the sustainable development and performance of an NPO in rural Ethiopia. We propose the Logic Balanced Scorecard (LBSC) model that combines elements of BSC and LF. This proposal was preliminarily used and tested in a five-year interventionist acc…
Transformando las prácticas de evaluación en las agencias de innovación para fomentar transiciones hacia la sostenibilidad
2019
The aim of the study is to identify different styles and practices for evaluation of innovation policies based on different orientations, focusing on the case of the paradigm of transformative change to foster transitions towards sustainability, and the problems associated with its application. The study is exploratory, and it uses public funding agencies for innovation as strategic research settings. Based on the information provided by the experience of an international consortium participated by funding agencies from different countries, the main concepts and problems presented in the theoretical debate are illustrated. Finally, the main contributions of the study to the theory and pract…
Sustainable service-learning in Physical Education teacher education: examining postural control to promote ASD children’s well-being
2021
As classrooms become more and more diverse, it is imperative to provide physical education teacher education (PETE) students with opportunities to develop competencies that promote quality education for all students. In this study, PETE students applied a physical education servicelearning (SL) program aimed at enhancing Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) children’s motor domain and general well-being—objectives that are connected to the third focus of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Traditionally, research on SL has focused on students’ outcomes, and there is a call to examine SL’s effects on service receivers, which is the gap this paper aspires to fill. The aim of t…
An innovative Blockchain-based model to implement the 2030 Agenda in Italy
2023
One of the most crucial collective efforts in history for improving the lives of billions of people is the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The assessment of the implementation of the SDGs in Italy in 2019 demonstrates that, overall, Italian cities have achieved 53% of the implementation of the SDGs from 100 percent full achievement. In addition, in many regions, the investigation verifies the gap between the country's north and south. Given that the use of the transformational power of blockchain to achieve the SDGs looks promising, the goal of this study is to explore how blockchain may improve the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Italy. In this research, a qualitative approach a…

Integrating multiple stressors in aquaculture to build the blue growth in a changing sea
2017
Fisheries currently represent the main source of animal protein intake worldwide, although catches of most commercial species are at or beyond maximum sustainable yields. Increasing production would require an excess of exploitation levels and aquaculture is expected to become crucial in sustaining a growing seafood demand. Nonetheless, many threats are expected to affect aquaculture and the increased production must evolve in a way that minimizes environmental and socio-economic impacts. The claimed sustainable development of human activities at sea (blue growth and economy) seeks for new joint analyses and solutions at (trans-)national systemic level should be planned and applied. To meet…
DIDATTICA E CONCORSI INTERNAZIONALI: OBIETTIVI, METODI ED ESPERIENZE
2018
Right to the future
2019
The Creative Land. Heritage and Creativity in the Neo-Anthropocene
2017
Urban creativity is a hard challenge, because it doesn’t need rules or models, but adaptive protocols applicable in different local contexts, able to mount resources, capacity building and creative environments. It challenges us to find local features that could provide good practices to be turned into methodologies or components to forge new urban and human regeneration tools, based on the cultural armature and citizens engagement. We live in a Creative Land composed by generative cities, a wide palimpsest of innovation labs, as experimented by several worldwide networks supporting what’s variously termed social enterprise, community interest companies, impact economy, organizations that a…
