Abstract Background The usual accelerometry-based measures of physical activity (PA) are dependent on physical performance. We investigated the associations between PA relative to walking performance and the prevalence and incidence of early and advanced walking difficulties compared to generally used measures of PA. Methods Perceived walking difficulty was evaluated in 994 community-dwelling participants at baseline (age 75, 80, or 85 years) and 2 years later over 2 km (early difficulty) and 500 m (advanced difficulty). Different personality traits respond differently to unfavourable life situations. Unemployment can have several negative social, economic, and domestic consequences. Many people use social media for a variety of reasons. The aim of this study is to examine the way different personality traits respond to Facebook in the period of unemployment. Data was obtained from 3,002 unemployed respondents in Nigeria. The study used regression model to analyse the data. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää Jyväskylän yliopiston Aikuiskouluttajan pedagogisten opintojen (APO) ohjaajien kokemuksia dialogisuudesta ohjauksessa. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin ohjaajien ajatuksia dialogisuudesta ilmiönä ja käsitteenä sekä APO-opintojen toimintaperiaatteena, kokemuksia dialogisuudesta erilaisissa ohjaustilanteissa sekä dialogisuuden haasteiden ja mahdollisuuksien arviointia. Tutkimuksen aineisto koostuu seitsemän APO-ohjaajan teemahaastatteluista, jotka analysoitiin aineistolähtöisellä sisällönanalyysilla. Tutkimuksessa selvitetään suomalaisten nuorisoseuratoimijoiden itsensä esittämää kysymystä siitä, toteutuvatko alkiolaiset nuorisoseuraihanteet nykyisessä nuorisoseuratoiminnassa. Ensimmäiset nuorisoseurat hakivat muotoaan 1900-luvun taitteessa, jolloin Santeri Alkio muotoili puuhamiehenä aatteen suuntaviivoja. Alkio pyrki kohottamaan nuorisoseurojen avulla alimpien kansankerrosten nuorison sivistystasoa ja tietoisuutta omasta yhteiskunnallisesta tilastaan. Tätä päämäärää kohti hän lähti kulkemaan nuorisoseuroissa toteutettavan itsekasvatuksen idean avulla. Geometry of Quadrangles in Almqvist’s The Queen’s Tiara

Quadrangles are repeatedly used in construction of scenes in Swedish author C. J. L. Almqvist’s novel The Queen’s Tiara. They limit and frame views. Repeating these structures creates connections between scenes. They form in relations between characters. Several quadrangular structures form around one main character called Tintomara, when she involuntarily attracts characters that fall in love in her. Also, quadrangles inside and beside each other are visible in scenes. Almqvist presented these forms in the elementary geometry textbook he published a year before this novel. peerReviewed

We integrate these two fields with a thought experiment, proposing ways in which strategists can work with, and through time in managing and turning around declines. Our thought experiment involves two very different types of analogies: a textual one from Philip K. Abstract Background A territory as a prerequisite for breeding limits the maximum number of breeders in a given area, and thus lowers the proportion of breeders if population size increases. However, some territorially breeding animals can have dramatic density fluctuations and little is known about the change from density-dependent processes to density-independence of breeding during a population increase or an outbreak. Aqueous extracts from blackcurrant press cake (BC), Norway spruce bark (NS), Scots pine bark (SP), and sea buckthorn leaves (SB) were obtained using maceration and pressurized hot water and tested for their bioactivities. Maceration provided the extraction of higher dry matter contents, including total phenolics (TPC), anthocyanins, and condensed tannins, which also impacted higher antioxidant activity. NS and SB extracts presented the highest mean values of TPC and antioxidant activity. Individually, NS extract presented high contents of proanthocyanidins, resveratrol, and some phenolic acids.
