Changing people’s attitudes and beliefs toward driving through floodwaters : Evaluation of a video infographic
2018
Despite awareness of campaigns such as ‘Turn Around, Don’t Drown’ and the Australian state of Queensland’s ‘If It’s Flooded, Forget It’, people continue to drive through floodwaters, causing loss of life, risk to rescuers, and damage to vehicles. The aim of this study was to develop a video infographic that highlights the dangers of driving through floodwaters and provide safety tips to reduce the risk, and to evaluate its effectiveness in changing the beliefs and intentions of Australian adults toward this risky driving behaviour. This study adopted an online three-wave non-controlled pretest–posttest design. Australian licensed drivers (N = 201, male = 41, female = 160; Mage = 34.10) self…
X-ray tomographic method for measuring three-dimensional deformation and water content distribution in swelling clays
2015
A non-invasive method for simultaneous measurement of the 3D displacement field and the water content distribution of a wetted solid material is developed. The method is based on comparison of X-ray tomographic images of a material sample in the reference state and in the wetted and deformed state. The deformation and water content analyses were successfully compared with numerical results for a cylindrical rubber test sample under axial compression, and with gravimetric results from axially wetted and sliced cylindrical bentonite samples, respectively. The methods were applied in a 4D study (three spatial dimensions and time) of wetting and deformation of purified swelling bentonite doped …
Ohjelmistoturvallisuuden parantaminen staattisella analyysillä
2018
Staattisella analyysillä tarkoitetaan ohjelmiston ominaisuuksien tarkastelemista kääntämättä tai ajamatta ohjelmistoa. Tämä tutkielma on pienimuotoinen kirjallisuuskatsaus, jonka tarkoituksena on lähdekirjallisuutta tutkimalla ja jäsentämällä tutkia, miten staattisella analyysillä voidaan parantaa nykyaikaisten web-applikaatioiden ohjelmistoturvallisuutta. Tutkitun kirjallisuuden perusteella staattista analyysiä hyödyntävillä työkaluilla on mahdollista havaita yleisiä, liiketoiminnan kannalta erittäin tuhoisia haavoittuvuuksia ja täten parantaa merkittävästi ohjelmistoturvallisuutta. Näiden työkalujen tehokas hyödyntäminen ohjelmistokehityksen kontekstissa vaatii kuitenkin suunnitelmallisuu…
Vulnerabilities in the wild : detecting vulnerable web applications at scale
2018
Web-sovellukset ovat suosittu kohde pahansuoville hyökkäyksille. Yleisissä web-sovelluksista voi löytyä useita haavoittuvuuksia vuoden aikana, joten on tärkeää päivittää sovelluksia aktiivisesti, jos niihin tulee tietoturvapäivityksiä. Harvoin näissä sovelluksissa on kuitenkaan automaattisia päivityksiä, joten järjestelmien päivittäminen on usein käyttäjän harteilla. Tutkielman tavoitteena on muodostaa menetelmä…
Habitat area and local habitat conditions outweigh fragmentation effects on insect communities in vineyards
2022
Fragmentation of habitat, for example by intensive agricultural practices, can be detrimental to local biodiversity. However, it often remains unclear whether such biodiversity declines are caused by loss of habitat area or increased fragmentation, and how habitat quality factors into it. In our study system, vegetated vineyards are typically small, and isolated from one another, potentially limiting the distribution and dispersal of organisms. In a full-factorial experiment of a priori selected vegetated vineyard patches of differing size and fragmentation, we aimed to disentangle the effects of habitat area (area of vegetated vineyards), habitat fragmentation (number of vegetated vineyard…
IEEE Access Special Section Editorial: Exploiting the Benefits of Interference in Wireless Networks: Energy Harvesting and Security
2018
Interference used to be viewed as a harmful factor in wireless networks, which can reduce the quality of information transmission. To combat against interference, many interference management techniques have emerged. Due to the latest research advances, interference (or noise) can also be exploited to offer some benefits to wireless networks. The first aspect is that interference in multi-user networks can be collected as a green power supply for the transceivers, known as wireless energy harvesting. Another application is that one can generate artificial noise to disrupt the adversarial eavesdropping, and guarantee the security of wireless networks. Therefore, conventional interference man…
Extended Families as Communities of Religious Experience in Late Seventeenth-Century Eastern Finland
2022
AbstractThis chapter offers an interpretation of extended families as communities of experience in a rural area close to the eastern border of the Swedish realm. Through a case study of lower court records, Kuha examines the social and religious life in a 17th-century farm culminating in the crisis of an extended family. The chapter explores how practices of lived religion shaped the relationship of the community and the individual, and how experiences were negotiated within families and local communities. The analysis highlights the importance of protecting the boundaries of the household as well as the meaning of religious practices in creating cohesion within the community.
Social Media Monitoring in the industrial Business to Business Sector
2012
The objective of this paper is to provide new knowledge of social media monitoring (SMM) in the B2B sector. Specifically, we study the quantity of electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) found on social media sites concerning B2B companies, as well how B2B companies view the nature and importance of eWOM. This case study research combines eight qualitative theme interviews executed in the autumn 2011 with a quantitative web data based on 3849 social media mentions collected with a social media monitoring (SMM) software rom the 25 August till 25 October 2011. Thus, the research contributes to marketing research both methodologically and theoretically. The results of this paper suggest that B2B compa…
