The influence of intra-alveolar application of honey versus Chlorhexidine rinse on the incidence of Alveolar Osteitis following molar teeth extractio…
2019
Background Alveolar Osteitis (AO) is a complication occurs on the post-extraction days that includes pain and disintegrated blood clot. Chlorhexidine (CHX) rinse after extraction is an effective method for decreasing the incidence of AO. Honey has natural antibacterial properties and effectiveness when it is used as a dressing on burns and wounds. However, the effect of intraoral honey dressings on healing is still not adequately studied. This study aimed to compare pain and AO after extraction of a molar tooth in a group of patients who received the intra-alveolar application of Manuka Honey post-operatively with another group who used 0.2% CHX rinse. Material and methods A randomized clin…
Resting position of the head and malocclusion in a group of patients with cerebral palsy
2014
Cerebral palsy are found as a result of these disorders, along with associated neuromuscular functional alterations that affect the resting position of the head. In this context, the resting position of the head could be responsible for several skeletal and dental occlusal disorders among patients with cerebral palsy. Objective: To assess the presence of malocclusions in patients with cerebral palsy, define the most frequent types of malocclusions, and evaluate how the resting position of the head may be implicated in the development of such malocclusions. Study design: Forty-four patients aged between 12-55 years (18 males and 26 females) were studied. Occlusal conditions, the Dental Aesth…
I CASTELLI DELLE RIVOLTE. DALLA PIANA DI PARTINICO ALLA VALLE DELLO JATO (PALERMO) SULLE TRACCE DEGLI ULTIMI MUSULMANI IN SICILIA OCCIDENTALE
2017
Following the excavations of the "Castellazzo" fortress of Jato, it became necessary to revise the archaeological materials coming from excavation and reconnaissance in all those fortified sites that welcomed the Muslim population during the revolts between the last Norman and Swabian ages. Attention was thus focused on at least two phases in the construction of such fortresses, often simple towers rather than real castles, corresponding to the beginning of the Norman domination and the Federician period.
Orofacial muscles activity in children with swallowing dysfunction and removable functional appliances
2019
Swallowing dysfunction is a frequent disorder among children and refers to an altered tongue posture and abnormal tongue movement during swallowing. Removable functional appliance is one of the treatments applied by dentistry to correct this disorder. The aim of this study was to evaluate any differences on orofacial muscles activity in children with swallowing dysfunction with and without removable functional appliances. 68 children were eligible for the study and divided into the orthodontic group (OG) and the no-orthodontic group (NO-OG). Both groups performed a dental occlusion-class evaluation, a swallowing function test and a myoscan analysis in order to measure perioral forces (i.e. …
Retro-nasal aroma release is correlated with variations in the in-mouth air cavity volume after empty deglutition.
2012
International audience; We hypothesized that interindividual differences in motor activities during chewing and/or swallowing were determining factors for the transfer of volatile aroma from the in-mouth air cavity (IMAC) toward the olfactory mucosa. In our first experiment, we looked for changes in IMAC volume after saliva deglutition in 12 healthy subjects. The mean IMAC volume was measured after empty deglutition using an acoustic pharyngometer device. Based on the time course of the IMAC volume after swallowing, we discerned two groups of subjects. The first group displayed a small, constant IMAC volume (2.26 mL ±0.62) that corresponded to a high tongue position. The second group displa…
Fault-Tolerant Application Mapping on to ZMesh topology based Network-on-Chip Design
2020
This paper proposes Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based fault-tolerant application mapping on to ZMesh topology based Network-on-Chip (NoC) design. Permanent faults in application cores has been considered and performed application mapping using PSO. The major contribution of this paper is to find out the best position for the spare core to be placed in the network using PSO. Experimentations have been carried out by scaling the ZMesh network size and percentage of network faults. The results show that the proposed approach leads to minimum overhead in communication cost over fault-free result.
Fukushima, or the Black Swan of Nuclear Energy
2012
By its own merits, the great earthquake that hit Japan on 11 March 2011 would have qualified as one of the worse disasters of recent times. With a magnitude of 9.0 MW, it was the most powerful known earthquake ever to have hit Japan, and one of the most powerful in history. It released a surface energy 2 × 1017 Joule. Enough, if harnessed, to power a city the size of Los Angeles for an entire year.
Monotonic solution of heterogeneous anisotropic diffusion problems
2013
Anisotropic problems arise in various areas of science and engineering, for example groundwater transport and petroleum reservoir simulations. The pure diffusive anisotropic time-dependent transport problem is solved on a finite number of nodes, that are selected inside and on the boundary of the given domain, along with possible internal boundaries connecting some of the nodes. An unstructured triangular mesh, that attains the Generalized Anisotropic Delaunay condition for all the triangle sides, is automatically generated by properly connecting all the nodes, starting from an arbitrary initial one. The control volume of each node is the closed polygon given by the union of the midpoint of…
On numerical broadening of particle-size spectra: a condensational growth study using PyMPDATA 1.0
2022
This work discusses the numerical aspects of representing the condensational growth of particles in models of aerosol systems such as atmospheric clouds. It focuses on the Eulerian modelling approach, in which fixed-bin discretisation is used for the probability density function describing the particle-size spectrum. Numerical diffusion is inherent to the employment of the fixed-bin discretisation for solving the arising transport problem (advection equation describing size spectrum evolution). The focus of this work is on a technique for reducing the numerical diffusion in solutions based on the upwind scheme: the multidimensional positive definite advection transport algorithm (MPDATA). S…
Energy Efficient Sink Placement in Wireless Sensor Networks by Brain Storm Optimization Algorithm
2018
Wireless sensor networks represent one of the most promising technologies whose use has significantly increased in the past years. They are used in various applications such as health care monitoring, surveillance and monitoring in agriculture, industrial monitoring, habitat and underwater monitoring, etc. Deployment of the wireless sensor networks introduces number of hard optimization problems. Placement of the elements such as sensors, gateways, sinks and base stations, depend on different conditions and constraints such as signal propagation, distance, energy preservation, reliability. In this paper, we propose a method based on brain storm optimization algorithm for placing multiple si…
