Big-bang nucleosynthesis and the relic abundance of dark matter in a stau-neutralino coannihilation scenario

2008

A scenario of the Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis is analyzed within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model which is consistent with a stau-neutralino coannihilation scenario to explain the relic abundance of dark matter. We find that we can account for the possible descrepancy of the abundance of $\mathrm{^{7}Li}$ between the observation and the prediction of the Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis by taking the mass of the neutralino as $300 \mathrm{GeV}$ and the mass difference between the stau and the neutralino as $(100 -- 120) MeV$. We can therefore simultaneously explain the abundance of the dark matter and that of $\mathrm{^{7}Li}$ by these values of parameters. The lifetime of staus in this scena…

Operators on Partial Inner Product Spaces: Towards a Spectral Analysis

2014

Given a LHS (Lattice of Hilbert spaces) $V_J$ and a symmetric operator $A$ in $V_J$, in the sense of partial inner product spaces, we define a generalized resolvent for $A$ and study the corresponding spectral properties. In particular, we examine, with help of the KLMN theorem, the question of generalized eigenvalues associated to points of the continuous (Hilbertian) spectrum. We give some examples, including so-called frame multipliers.

Leadership in internationalization strategies

2022

This paper examines leadership in internationalization strategies for an asymmetric cost duopoly where firms choose between exports and foreign direct investment (FDI) in a sequential setting. The incentive to lead and to engage in FDI is stronger for the more efficient firm. With sequential choices and the efficient firm playing in advance, it is less likely that firms pick identical internationalization strategies in equilibrium, as compared with simultaneous choices; this is more so for greater cost asymmetry. It also happens for large enough oligopoly profitability when the inefficient firm plays in advance. Follow-the-leader behaviour in FDI arises for low values of the setup cost. Alt…

Collective spontaneous emission of two entangled atoms near an oscillating mirror

2020

We consider the cooperative spontaneous emission of a system of two identical atoms, interacting with the electromagnetic field in the vacuum state and in the presence of an oscillating mirror. We assume that the two atoms, one in the ground state and the other in the excited state, are prepared in a correlated (symmetric or antisymmetric) {\em Bell}-type state. We also suppose that the perfectly reflecting plate oscillates adiabatically, with the field modes satisfying the boundary conditions at the mirror surface at any given instant, so that the time-dependence of the interaction Hamiltonian is entirely enclosed in the instantaneous atoms-wall distance. Using time-dependent perturbation …

An Operator Theoretical Approach to Enveloping ϕ* - and C* - Algebras of Melrose Algebras of Totally Characteristic Pseudodifferential Operators

1998

Let X be a compact manifold with boundary. It will be shown (Theorem 3.4) that the small Melrose algebra A≔ ϕb,cl (χ,bΩ1/2) (cf. [22], [23]) of classical, totally characteristic pseudodifferential operators carries no topology such that it is a topological algebra with an open group of invertible elements, in particular, the algebra A cannot be spectrally invariant in any C* – algebra. On the other hand, the symbolic structure of A can be extended continuously to the C* – algebra B generated by A as a subalgebra of ζ(σbL2(χ, bΩ1/2)) by a generalization of a method of Gohberg and Krupnik. Furthermore, A is densely embedded in a Frechet algebra A ⊆ B which is a ϕ* – algebra in the sense of Gr…

Search for the pair production of scalar top quarks in the acoplanar charm jet final state in collisions at

2007

A search for the pair production of scalar top quarks, {bar t}, has been performed in 360 pb{sup -1} of data from p{bar p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV, collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The {bar t} decay mode considered is {bar t} {yields} c{bar {chi}}{sub 1}{sup 0}, where {bar {chi}}{sub 1}{sup 0} is the lightest supersymmetric particle. The topology analyzed therefore consists of a pair of acoplanar heavy-flavor jets with missing transverse energy. The data show good agreement with the standard model expectation, and a 95% C.L. exclusion domain in the (m{sub {tilde t}}, m{sub {tilde {chi}}{sub 1}{sup 0}}) plane has been determined, exten…

Some results concerning simple locally finite groups of 1-type

2005

AbstractIn this paper several aspects of infinite simple locally finite groups of 1-type are considered. In the first part, the classes of diagonal limits of finite alternating groups, of diagonal limits of finite direct products of alternating groups, and of absolutely simple groups of 1-type are distinguished from each other. In the second part, inductive systems of representations over fields of characteristic zero (which are known to correspond to ideals in the group algebra) are studied in general for groups of 1-type. The roles of primitive respectively imprimitive representations in inductive systems are investigated. Moreover it is shown that in any proper inductive system the depth…

Robustness of the Gaussian concentration inequality and the Brunn–Minkowski inequality

2016

We provide a sharp quantitative version of the Gaussian concentration inequality: for every $r>0$, the difference between the measure of the $r$-enlargement of a given set and the $r$-enlargement of a half-space controls the square of the measure of the symmetric difference between the set and a suitable half-space. We also prove a similar estimate in the Euclidean setting for the enlargement with a general convex set. This is equivalent to the stability of the Brunn-Minkowski inequality for the Minkowski sum between a convex set and a generic one.

Shell-model study on event rates of lightest supersymmetric particles scattering off 83Kr and 125Te

2016

We investigate the elastic and inelastic scattering of lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) dark matter off two possible target nuclei, 83Kr and 125Te. For the nuclear-structure calculations, we employ the nuclear shell model using recently generated realistic interactions. We have condensed the nuclear-physics contribution to a set of nuclear-structure factors that are independent of the adopted supersymmetric (SUSY) model. Total event rates are then easily calculated by combining the nuclear-structure factors with SUSY parameters of choice. In particular, 125Te shows promise as a detector material with both the elastic and inelastic channels yielding an appreciable nuclear response. pee…

A Self-Contained Electro-Hydraulic Cylinder: Modeling, Control Design, Simulation and Experimental Validation

2018

Master's thesis Mechatronics MAS500 - University of Agder 2018 In the constant effort to improve the efficiency of hydraulic systems, the pressure drop over hydraulic valves has been one of the major obstacles. In the Self-Contained Electro-Hydraulic Cylinder, the directional valve and the hydraulic power unit have been replaced by a bi-directional axial piston pump and a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor. Actuation of the cylinder is performed by controlling the direction of rotation and the velocity of the motor. Originally the purpose of this project was to: "Design a proper control algorithm for an existing novel selfcontained electro-hydraulic cylinder, implement it on the main boom o…
