Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) can be considered as the standard treatment for patients suffering from heart failure (NYHA III–IV), severely reduced left ventricular (LV) function, and wide QRS complexes. A new phase locked loop strategy for power quality instruments synchronisation

Power quality instrumentation requires the accurate fundamental frequency estimation and the signal synchronization, even in presence of disturbances. In the paper the authors present an innovative synchronization technique, based on a single phase software PLL. To evaluate how the synchronization technique is adversely affected by the application of stationary and transient disturbing influences, appropriate testing conditions have been developed, taking into account the requirements of the in-force standards. Nanosecond-level time synchronization of autonomous radio detector stations for extensive air showers

To exploit the full potential of radio measurements of cosmic-ray air showers at MHz frequencies, a detector timing synchronization within 1 ns is needed. Large distributed radio detector arrays such as the Auger Engineering Radio Array (AERA) rely on timing via the Global Positioning System (GPS) for the synchronization of individual detector station clocks. Unfortunately, GPS timing is expected to have an accuracy no better than about 5 ns. In practice, in particular in AERA, the GPS clocks exhibit drifts on the order of tens of ns. In this chapter we study a larger class of dynamical systems that include but go beyond Hamiltonian systems. We are interested, on the one hand, in dissipative systems, i.e. systems that lose energy through frictional forces or into which energy is fed from exterior sources, and, on the other hand, in discrete, or discretized, systems such as those generated by studying flows by means of the Poincare mapping. The occurence of dissipation implies that the system is coupled to other, external systems, in a controllable manner. Design of a double-gap Hughes-type coupled-cavity for a Ka-band Extended Interaction Klystron

In this paper, the design of a Ka-band Extended-Interaction Klystron (EIK) working at 2$\pi$ mode. The interaction structure is a three-gap Hughes-type coupled-cavity. Based on the results obtained with the 3D model developed by using CST, “cold electrical parameters” have been calculated, necessary to measure the interaction with the electron beam. The structure stability and the synchronization with the electron beam are analyzed The large-signal analysis is performed by 1D software AJDISK. Under the beam voltage and current of 19.55 kV and 0.95 A, respectively, an RF output power value of 3.86 kW and a bandwidth gain value of 37. 06 dB have been obtained

Synchronization of Bioelectric Oscillations in Networks of Nonexcitable Cells: From Single-Cell to Multicellular States.

Biological networks use collective oscillations for information processing tasks. In particular, oscillatory membrane potentials have been observed in nonexcitable cells and bacterial communities where specific ion channel proteins contribute to the bioelectric coordination of large populations. We aim at describing theoretically the oscillatory spatiotemporal patterns that emerge at the multicellular level from the single-cell bioelectric dynamics. Quantum Stochastic Resonance in a Micromaser

1998

We demonstrate that quantum stochastic resonance allows for the noise-controlled synchronization of quantum jumps between the metastable states of the quantized radiation field in a micromaser. Under readily accessible experimental conditions optimal synchronization is achieved at a finite temperature $T\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}500\mathrm{mK}$ of the environment.

Synchronizing Quantum Harmonic Oscillators through Two-Level Systems

Two oscillators coupled to a two-level system which in turn is coupled to an infinite number of oscillators (reservoir) are considered, bringing to light the occurrence of synchronization. A detailed analysis clarifies the physical mechanism that forces the system to oscillate at a single frequency with a predictable and tunable phase difference. Finally, the scheme is generalized to the case of $N$ oscillators and $M(<N)$ two-level systems.
