A Combined Experimental and Theoretical Study on Bis(μ‐alkoxo)diiron(III) Complexes with Hydroxybenzylaminoethanol [O,N,O] Donor Ligands: Syntheses, …
2011
Three new neutral bis(μ-alkoxo)diiron(III) complexes were prepared from N(R),N-(2-methylene-4,6-di-tert-butylphenol)aminoethan-1-ol ligands (H2L1, R = Me and H2L2, R = H). In these complexes, the ligand wraps around the metal center exhibiting a tridentate facial coordination mode with alkoxo-bridging oxygen, amine nitrogen and phenoxo oxygen donor atoms. In the complex [Fe(acac)L1]2·MeCN (1) acetylacetonato coligand complete the distorted octahedral coordination spheres of the iron(III) ions, whereas in the five-coordinate iron(III) chloride complexes [FeClL1]2 (2) and [FeClL2]2 (3) the ligands induce a geometry that is intermediate between square pyramidal and trigonal bipyramidal. Magnet…
Dynamic formation of hybrid peptidic capsules by chiral self-sorting and self-assembly.
2014
Owing to their versatility and biocompatibility, peptide-based self-assembled structures constitute valuable targets for complex functional designs. It is now shown that artificial capsules based on β-barrel binding motifs can be obtained by means of dynamic covalent chemistry (DCC) and self-assembly. Short peptides (up to tetrapeptides) are reversibly attached to resorcinarene scaffolds. Peptidic capsules are thus selectively formed in either a heterochiral or a homochiral way by simultaneous and spontaneous processes, involving chiral sorting, tautomerization, diastereoselective induction of inherent chirality, and chiral self-assembly. Self-assembly is shown to direct the regioselectivit…
Anionic halide···alcohol clusters in the solid state.
2014
The cationic (1,3,5-triazapentadiene)Pt(II) complexes [1](Cl)2, [2](Cl)2, [3](Br)2, and [4](Cl)2, were crystallized from ROH-containing systems (R = Me, Et) providing alcohol solvates studied by X-ray diffraction. In the crystal structures of [1-4][(Hal)2(ROH)2] (R = Me, Et), the Hal(-) ion interacts with two or three cations [1-4](2+) by means of two or three or four contacts thus uniting stacked arrays of complexes into the layers. The solvated MeOH or EtOH molecules occupy vacant space, giving contacts with [1-4](2+), and connects to the Hal(-) ion through a hydrogen bridge via the H(1O)O(1S) H atom forming, by means of the Hal(-)···HOR (Hal = Cl, Br) contact, the halide-alcohol cluster.…
Ferrocenyl-functionalized tetranuclear gold(I) and gold(I)-copper(I) complexes based on tridentate phosphanes
2013
Tetranuclear AuI–FeII dimetallic and AuI–CuI–FeII trimetallic complexes bearing ferrocenyl (Fc) groups have been assembled by using two triphosphane ligands, namely, (PPh2CH2)2PPh (dpmp) and (PPh2)3CH (tppm). The compositions and structural type of the clusters are dependent on the stereochemistry of the P donor ligands. The complexes [tppmAu3Cu(C2R)3]PF6 [R = Fc (1) and 4-C6H4-Fc (2)] adopt a trigonal pyramidal {Au3Cu} arrangement of the coordinating metal core, whereas for the compounds with the linear triphosphane [Au4(dpmp)2(C2R)2](PF6)2 [R = Fc (3) and 4-C6H4-Fc (4)], a planar rhomboidal {Au4} framework was found. Clusters 1–4 were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and ESI-MS measureme…
Antioxidative succinobucol–sterol conjugates: Crystal structures and pseudosymmetry in the crystals
2012
Abstract An extensive study to attach succinobucol to sterols has provided conjugates which comprise two pharmaceutically important compounds into one entity where the components are expected to have a synergistic effect. The motivation to design these novel conjugates was the need to broaden the armamentarium of current agents used in the treatment of atherosclerotic diseases and type 2 diabetes. In desire for detailed information of these compounds in solid state, which also have an influence to their physiological activity, systematic crystallization experiments were performed and as a result, X-ray quality single crystals were obtained from four succinobucol–sterol conjugates. All of th…
Semiconducting Clathrates Meet Gas Hydrates: Xe24[Sn136]
2014
Semiconducting Group 14 clathrates are inorganic host–guest materials with a close structural relationship to gas hydrates. Here we utilize this inherent structural relationship to derive a new class of porous semiconductor materials: noble gas filled Group 14 clathrates (Ngx[M136], Ng=Ar, Kr, Xe and M=Si, Ge, Sn). We have carried out high-level quantum chemical studies using periodic Local-MP2 (LMP2) and dispersion-corrected density functional methods (DFT-B3LYP-D3) to properly describe the dispersive host–guest interactions. The adsorption of noble gas atoms within clathrate-II framework turned out to be energetically clearly favorable for several host–guest systems. For the energetically…
Solvent induced single-crystal to single-crystal structural transformation and concomitant transmetalation in a 3D cationic Zn(II)-framework.
2015
A 3D cationic Zn(II) framework, based on Zn2(CO2)4 paddle-wheel secondary building units (SBUs) and Zn16(CO2)32 polyhedral supramolecular building blocks (SBBs), has been synthesized. At room temperature, the framework undergoes guest solvent triggered reversible structural transformation and concomitant Zn(II) to Cu(II) transmetalation in a single-crystal to single-crystal fashion.
Thiolate Adsorption on Au(hkl) and Equilibrium Shape of Large Thiolate-covered Gold Nanoparticles
2013
The adsorption of thiolates on Au surfaces employing density-functional-theory calculations has been studied. The dissociative chemisorption of dimethyl disulfide (CH3S−SCH3) on 14 different Au(hkl) is used as a model system. We discuss trends on adsorption energies, bond lengths, and bond angles as the surface structure changes, considering every possible Au(hkl) with h, k, l ≤ 3 plus the kinked Au(421). Methanethiolate (CH3S-) prefers adsorption on bridge sites on all surfaces considered; hollow and on top sites are highly unfavourable. The interface tensions for Au(hkl)-thiolate interfaces is determined at low coverage. Using the interface tensions in a Wulff construction method, we cons…
A Supramolecular Chiral Auxiliary Approach: “Remote Control ”of Stereochemistry at a Hierarchically Assembled Dimeric Helicate
2016
Dimeric hierarchically-assembled titanium(IV) helicates are in solvent-dependent equilibrium with the corresponding monomers. Statistically formed mixtures of such complexes bearing chiral stereocontrolling ligands and achiral diene-substituted ligands show high diastereoselectivity and reasonable enantioselectivity in the Diels-Alder reaction with maleimides if the reaction proceeds with the dimer but not with the monomer. Thus, solvent dependent switching between the monomer and dimer enables on/off switching of the enantioselectivity.
Influence of lower rim C-methyl group on crystal forms and metal complexation of resorcinarene bis-crown-5
2015
C-methyl resorcinarene bis-crown-5 (1) with pendant methyl groups at the lower rim was prepared and crystallized in various solvent mixtures with and without selected metal salts. The crystal structures of two polymorphic forms of unsolvated 1 (1-I and 1-II), three solvates (acetonitrile, chloroform and dichloromethane-methanol), and three metal complexes with silver and cesium salts were obtained. The lower rim methyl groups and the block shape of the host promote crystal packing in brick-wall type assemblies, in which the binding cavities are efficiently filled by the crown bridges. Thus, solvents are found in the interstitial space or coordinated to the crown bridges on top of the cavity…
