Stable isotope profiles of nitrogen gas indicate denitrification in oxygen-stratified humic lakes

2011

Mid-summer N(2) profiles were analyzed from nine oxygen-stratified, humic-acid-rich lakes using a continuous flow isotope ratio mass spectrometer and a Gasbench II device. Sample preparation steps were performed under water to avoid air contamination. The instrument precision for the δ(15)N measurement was high (0.03‰), but for the whole sampling and analysis procedure the mean deviation between replicate samples was 0.13‰ for the δ(15)N measurements and 5.5% for the N(2) gas concentration analysis. The results show that the Gasbench peripheral was suitable for measurement of the (15)N natural abundance of dissolved nitrogen gas, with denitrification indicated by the oversaturation and slig…

Preparation and crystal structure of the oxalato-bridged CrIII–AgItwo-dimensional compound {Ag3(H2O)[Cr(dpa)(ox)2]3}n·2nH2O (dpa = 2,2′-dipyridylamin…

2004

The reaction of the mononuclear complex [Cr(dpa)(ox)2]− (dpa = 2,2-dipyridylamine) with Ag+ in aqueous solution affords the two-dimensional compound {Ag3(H2O)[Cr(dpa)(ox)2]3}n·2nH2O (1) whose structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Six crystallographically independent metal atoms (three chromium and three silver atoms) occur in 1. The three [Cr(dpa)(ox)2]− units in 1 act as ligands towards the silver atoms through the two oxalate groups. Each oxalate group acts as bridging ligand adopting five coordination modes: bis-bidentate, bis-bidentate/monodentate (outer), bis-bidentate/monodentate (inner), bidentate/bis-monodentate (outer) and bidentate/monodentate (outer).…

(2-Chlorobenzyl)tris(2-pyridinethiolato)tin(IV).

2000

In the title compound, (2-chlorobenzyl)tris(pyridine-2-thiolato)-kappa(2)N,S;kappa2N,S;kappaS-tin(IV), [Sn(C7H6Cl)(C5H4NS)3], two of the three pyridine-2-thiolato ligands (SPy) are bidentate and one is monodentate. The bonding C atom of the 2-chlorobenzyl group, the S atom of the monodentate SPy and the S and N atoms of the two bidentate SPy ligands form a distorted octahedron around the Sn atom. The three S atoms and the N atom of one of the bidentate SPy ligands occupy the equatorial positions, while the N atom of the second bidentate SPy ligand and the C(CH2) atom are axial. The axial N-Sn-C angle of 157.9 (1) degree demonstrates the heavy distortion of the octahedron.

Random Slicing: Efficient and Scalable Data Placement for Large-Scale Storage Systems

2014

The ever-growing amount of data requires highly scalable storage solutions. The most flexible approach is to use storage pools that can be expanded and scaled down by adding or removing storage devices. To make this approach usable, it is necessary to provide a solution to locate data items in such a dynamic environment. This article presents and evaluates the Random Slicing strategy, which incorporates lessons learned from table-based, rule-based, and pseudo-randomized hashing strategies and is able to provide a simple and efficient strategy that scales up to handle exascale data. Random Slicing keeps a small table with information about previous storage system insert and remove operations…

Fast Separation and Determination of Sterols in Vegetable Oils by Ultraperformance Liquid Chromatography with Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionizatio…

2010

A method for the determination of sterols in vegetable oils by ultraperformance liquid chromatography (UPLC) with atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry detection has been developed. The separation of sterols was optimized in terms of mobile phase composition, column temperature and flow rate. The optimal conditions were achieved using an Acquity UPLC BEH C18 column (50 x 2.1 mm, 1.7 microm) with a mobile phase consistent of acetonitrile/water (0.01% acetic acid) using a linear gradient, at a flow rate of 0.8 mL min(-1) and column temperature of 10 degrees C, giving a total analysis time below 5 min. The determination was performed in selective ion recording mode. The li…

Determination of fungicide residues in fruits and vegetables by liquid chromatography–atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry

2002

Abstract A liquid chromatography (LC) method for the quantitative determination of five fungicide residues (dichloran, flutriafol, o -phenylphenol, prochloraz and tolclofos methyl) in oranges, lemons, bananas, peppers, chards and onions is described. The residues were extracted by matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) using C 8 . Quantitative analysis was performed by isocratic LC coupled to quadrupole mass spectrometer using atmospheric pressure chemical ionization in the negative ionization mode. The limit of quantification was 0.01 mg kg −1 for flutriafol, o -phenylphenol and dichloran, and 0.1 mg kg −1 for prochloraz and tolclofos methyl. The MSPD method is also suitable for LC–UV analys…

Determination of carbamate residues in fruits and vegetables by matrix solid-phase dispersion and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.

2000

Abstract Thirteen carbamates were analysed in orange, grape, onion and tomatoes by matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) followed by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS). Electrospray (ES) and atmospheric pressure chemical ionisation (APCI) were compared and both gave similar results in terms of sensitivity and structural information because at 20 V fragmentor voltages the fragmentation is minimal. The efficiency of different solid-phases (C18, C8, cyano, amine and phenyl) for the MSPD was compared. Mean recoveries using C8 varied from 64 to 106% with relative standard deviations of 5–15% in the concentration range of 0.01–10 mg kg−1. Matrix constituents did not interfere signific…

Determination of aniline in vegetable oils by diazotization and coupling in a microemulsion medium

1990

Abstract A microemulsion containing sodium dodecyl sulphate and n -pentanol in a mass ratio of 1 : 4, water and a vegetable oil was investigated using pseudo-tenary phase diagrams. The medium can co-solve important amounts of vegetable oils and aqueous solutions over a wide range of ionic strengths. A procedure for the determination of 1.4–140 μg ml −1 of aniline in vegetable oils using ionic diazotization and coupling reactions was developed. The absorbance was measured in an optically clear microemulsion containing 4% or 20% of oil. The procedure is much simpler and rapid than the official chromatographic methods and gives almost the same limits of detection (ca. 05 μg ml −1 ) using no mo…
