Tässä pro gradu -tutkielmassa tarkastellaan taideteoksen autenttisuuden ja auran nykymerkityksiä installaatiotaiteen näkökulmasta. Keskeisenä tavoitteena on selvittää, mistä kontekstisidonnaisen ja prosessuaalisen installaatioteoksen autenttisuus muodostuu, ja millä tavoin tätä autenttisuutta pyritään taidemuseoissa teoksen esittämisen ja tallentamisen prosesseissa ylläpitämään. Lisäksi tutkielmassa avataan taiteilijan intention ja tekijyyden käsitteitä. Tutkielmassa vuoropuhelua käyvät taidefilosofinen käsiteanalyysi ja taidemuseoiden toimintatapoja kartoittava haastatteluaineisto. Tutkimukseni kartoittaa aluetaidemuseotoiminnan muutoksia ja keskeisimpiä muutoksen taustalla olevia tekijöitä aina toiminnan käynnistämisestä eli 1970-luvulla alkaneesta aluetaidemuseokokeilusta vuoteen 2010. Museohistoria nousi ajankohtaiseksi vuonna 2005 käynnistyneen Suomen museohistoriahankkeen myötä ja hanke toimi yhtenä kimmokkeena aiheen valinnalle. Tavoitteenani on ollut kuvata aluetaidemuseoiden historiallista kehityskulkua. Tutkimustehtävä jakautuu kahteen osaan. Lahden taidemuseo perustettiin Viipurin taidemuseosta saatujen teosten ympärille vuonna 1950. Taidemuseo sijoitettiin väliaikaisesti teknillisen virastotalon kuudenteen kerrokseen. Kaupunkiin oli suunnitteilla kulttuurilaitosten yhteisrakennus, jonka yhteyteen myös taidemuseo ajateltiin sijoittaa. Yhteishanke jäi toteutumatta ja taidemuseon väliaikaiseksi tarkoitetusta sijainnista tulikin pitkäaikainen. Useat toimijat ovat ponnistelleet taidemuseon tilarealiteettien parantamiseksi. The transformation of Musée Guimet and the transition of museums in the ‘countries of origin’ of its collections elucidates how white-cube crystallises Western cultural hegemony by erasing the colonial past of the objects and by representing the physical form of modernity.
