2017

Górny Śląsk to teren będący od wieków mieszanką różnych wpływów narodowych, etnicznych, językowych i religijnych. Autor tekstu, odwołując się do skomplikowanego kontekstu historyczno-politycznego regionu, opisuje, w jaki sposób powojenne władze wykorzystywały politycznie regionalizm i jakie były konsekwencje polityki władz w odniesieniu do ludności zamieszkującej opolską część Górnego Śląska.

Data from: Phylogenomics of Lophotrochozoa with consideration of systematic error

2021

Phylogenomic studies have improved understanding of deep metazoan phylogeny and show promise for resolving incongruences among analyses based on limited numbers of loci. One region of the animal tree that has been especially difficult to resolve, even with phylogenomic approaches, is relationships within Lophotrochozoa (the animal clade that includes molluscs, annelids, and flatworms among others). Lack of resolution in phylogenomic analyses could be due to insufficient phylogenetic signal, limitations in taxon and/or gene sampling, or systematic error. Here, we investigated why lophotrochozoan phylogeny has been such a difficult question to answer by identifying and reducing sources of sys…

Pinch technique and the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism

2002

In this paper we take the first step towards a non-diagrammatic formulation of the Pinch Technique. In particular we proceed into a systematic identification of the parts of the one-loop and two-loop Feynman diagrams that are exchanged during the pinching process in terms of unphysical ghost Green's functions; the latter appear in the standard Slavnov-Taylor identity satisfied by the tree-level and one-loop three-gluon vertex. This identification allows for the consistent generalization of the intrinsic pinch technique to two loops, through the collective treatment of entire sets of diagrams, instead of the laborious algebraic manipulation of individual graphs, and sets up the stage for the…

2013

PURPOSE: To evaluate distance and near contrast sensitivity (CS) under photopic and mesopic conditions before and after refractive lens exchange (RLE) and implantation of the aspheric AcrySof®ReSTOR® (SN6AD3 model) intraocular lens (IOL). METHODS:Seventy-four eyes of 37 patients after RLE underwent bilateral implantation with the aspheric AcrySof ReSTOR IOL. The patient sample was divided into myopic and hyperopic groups. Monocular uncorrected visual acuity at distance and near (UCVA and UCNVA, respectively) and monocular best corrected visual acuity at distance and near (BCVA and BCNVA, respectively) were measured before and 6 months postoperatively. Monocular CS function was measured at t…

Negative regulators of integrin activity

2012

Integrins are heterodimeric transmembrane adhesion receptors composed of α- and β-subunits. They are ubiquitously expressed and have key roles in a number of important biological processes, such as development, maintenance of tissue homeostasis and immunological responses. The activity of integrins, which indicates their affinity towards their ligands, is tightly regulated such that signals inside the cell cruicially regulate the switching between active and inactive states. An impaired ability to activate integrins is associated with many human diseases, including bleeding disorders and immune deficiencies, whereas inappropriate integrin activation has been linked to inflammatory disorders…

Caco‐2 versus Caco‐2/HT29‐MTX Co‐cultured Cell Lines: Permeabilities Via Diffusion, Inside‐ and Outside‐Directed Carrier‐Mediated Transport

2000

Abstract Purpose The objective of this study was a systematic characterization and evaluation of cell culture models based on mixtures of Caco‐2/HT29‐MTX co‐cultures for their use in screening for drug absorption and intestinal permeability in comparison to the properties of the respective mono‐cultures. Methods Co‐cultures of Caco‐2 cells (absorptive‐type) and HT29‐MTX cells (goblet‐type) were set up. Three different co‐cultures (initial seeding ratios Caco‐2/HT29‐MTX: 90/10, 70/30, and 50/50) were grown on permeable filter supports, and monolayers were used for permeability studies with model compounds for paracellular absorption (atenolol, furosemide, H334/75, mannitol, terbutaline), tra…
