Abstract Cytochrome c oxidase (COX) complex is built up with both nucleus- and mitochondrion-encoded subunits. Biogenesis and assembly of the complex thus requires fine cross-talk between the two compartments. In order to shed light on the regulation of nuclear–mitochondrial interactions, we studied the expression of COXIII (mitochondrion-encoded) and COXIV (nucleus-encoded) in adult rat tissues and rat developing brain. We found that the levels of COXIV protein and mRNA are not linearly related, thus suggesting a post-transcriptional mode of regulation. This paper deals with a novel method of transmission and receipt of a signal based on both the property of two chaotic systems generating the same chaotic signal when they are synchronized and the property of pulse position modulation (PPM) to be insensitive to the distortions of the transmission channel. In this study we investigate the influence of the operation method in Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) on the measured potential distribution. KPFM is widely used to map the nanoscale potential distribution in operating devices, e.g., in thin film transistors or on cross sections of functional solar cells. Quantitative surface potential measurements are crucial for understanding the operation principles of functional nanostructures in these electronic devices. Children with conduct disorders are at risk of being positioned in the family therapy as ‘the problem’. This study describes how the difficulties were talked about and how the child coped in this situation. The results showed: the parents produced symptom-oriented problem talk about the child’s behavior, rendering systemic reformulation of the problem challenging. The negative interaction made the climate unsafe and impaired consideration of the child’s behavior as a meaningful way for the child to become seen and heard. This study enriches understanding of the therapeutic challenge therapists face with high-risk families from the very beginning of the treatment. peerReviewed

Tämä kandidaatintutkielma käsittelee seksuaalisten vähemmistöjen syrjintää ja nettikiusaamisen esiintymistä internet-faniyhteisöissä. Edelliset tutkimukset kertovat nettikiusaamisen olevan haitallista ja vaikuttavan uhrien mielenterveyteen – usein jopa enemmän kuin kasvotusten tapahtuva kiusaaminen. Tutkielmaa varten tehty nettikysely suunnattiin “femslash”-faniryhmille. Näiden ryhmien median kulutukseen kuuluvat esimerkiksi tv-ohjelmien naishahmojen väliset (romanttiset) suhteet ja näistä suhteista puhuminen sekä eri materiaalien (kuten kuvien, videoiden ja fanifiktion) luominen ryhmien henkilöiden kesken.
