This dissertation consists of nine empirical studies which seek to broaden understanding of Finnish regional economic structures. These studies are divided between two topics: 1) regional specialization and industrial concentration in Finland, and 2) regional economic impact analysis. The empirical studies are preceded by an introduction, in which the theoretical background, outline and the main results of the thesis are presented. The research on the first topic is guided by the new economic geography literature, from which answers are sought to the location and agglomeration questions addressed in this dissertation. Tutkimuksessa analysoitiin euroalueen osakemarkkinoiden integraatiota euroaikana Pukthuanthong & Roll (2009) integraatiomitalla. Tutkimuksella oli kaksi päätavoitetta. Continuous cover forestry is a cost-efficient tool to increase multifunctionality of boreal production forests in Fennoscandia

Earlier research has suggested that the diversification of silvicultural strategies is a cost-efficient tool to ensure multifunctionality in production forests. This study compared the effects of continuous cover forestry and conventional rotation forestry on ecosystem services and biodiversity in boreal forests in Finland. We simulated over 25,000 commercial forest stands for 100 years under continuous cover and rotation forest management. Forests without management were used as a reference.
