Seed‐Layer‐Free Atomic Layer Deposition of Highly Uniform Al 2 O 3 Thin Films onto Monolayer Epitaxial Graphene on Silicon Carbide

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is the method of choice to obtain uniform insulating films on graphene for device applications. Owing to the lack of out-of-plane bonds in the sp(2) lattice of graphene, nucleation of ALD layers is typically promoted by functionalization treatments or predeposition of a seed layer, which, in turn, can adversely affect graphene electrical properties. Hence, ALD of dielectrics on graphene without prefunctionalization and seed layers would be highly desirable. Abstract A putative Drosophila homolog of the Friedreich's ataxia disease gene (FRDA) has been cloned and characterized; it has been named Drosophila frataxin homolog (dfh). It is located at 8C/D position on X chromosome and is spread over 1 kb, a much smaller genomic region than the human gene. Its genomic organization is simple, with a single intron dividing the coding region into two exons. The predicted encoded product has 190 amino acids, being considered a frataxin-like protein on the basis of the sequence and secondary structure conservation when compared with human frataxin and related proteins from other eukaryotes. Role of the strain in the epitaxial regrowth rate of heavily doped amorphous Si films

Solid phase epitaxial regrowth (SPER) of p -doped preamorphized Si was studied by time resolved reflectivity. Strain and dopant concentration were opportunely varied by implanting neutral (Ge) and isovalent (B, Ga) impurities in order to disentangle the two different effects on SPER. Larger SPER rate variations occurred in strained doped Si with respect to undoped samples. The generalized Fermi level shifting model was implemented to include the role of the strain and to fit the experimental data over a large range of temperature for p - and n -type doping. We introduced a charged defect, whose energy level is independent of the dopant species. © 2008 American Institute of Physics.

High accuracy Raman measurements using the Stokes and anti-Stokes lines

We show that by measuring the separation between the Stokes and anti-Stokes peaks excited by two different laser lines we obtain a very precise determination of absolute phonon energies. The method is useful for measuring small changes of these energies with strain, temperature, laser power, etc. It doubles the changes and avoids the necessity of using the reference lines in the Raman spectra. The method can be applied for the determination of phonon deformation potentials, for the characterization of strained heteroepitaxial layers, and for micro-Raman analysis of strain in silicon integrated circuits. La cronología de ἵνα con subjuntivo en expresión de mandato: la lengua de Sófocles, Eurípides y Jenofonte

En este artículo el autor trata de señalar que la construcción de ἵνα más subjuntivo con valor de imperativo es anterior a la koiné. Asimismo trata de explicar su origen y sus fases a partir de un proceso de gramaticalización constatable, por ejemplo, en la lengua de Sófocles, Eurípides y Jenofonte. In this paper the author tries to point out that ἵνα with subjunctive as imperative is previous to koiné. Likewise he tries to explain its origin and phases starting from a grammaticalization process that is noticeable in the language of Sophocles, Euripides and Xenophon.

Co-evolution of three mega-trends nurtures un-captured GDP – Uber's ride-sharing revolution

Uber used a disruptive business model driven by digital technology to trigger a ride-sharing revolution. The institutional sources of the company’s platform ecosystem architecture were analyzed to explain this revolutionary change. Both an empirical analysis of a co-existing development trajectory with taxis and institutional enablers that helped to create Uber’s platform ecosystem were analyzed. The analysis identified a correspondence with the “two-faced” nature of ICT that nurtures un-captured GDP. CXCL10 (IP-10) is a highly inducible chemoattractant, which contributes to the recruitment of inflammatory cells such as macrophages and T-lymphocytes and thereby has important roles in chronic inflammatory conditions. In a search for new inhibitors of CXCL10 expression in MonoMac6 (MM6) cells, the new diaryl ether 3'-demethyldihydromaldoxin (1) along with the known compound dihydromaldoxin (2), were isolated from fermentations of a Steganospora species.
