Can technical, functional and structural characteristics of dental units predict Legionella pneumophila and Pseudomonas aeruginosa contamination?

Legionella pneumophila and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are common colonizers of water environments, particularly dental unit waterlines. The aim of this study was to assess whether the technical, functional and structural characteristics of dental units can influence the presence and the levels of opportunistic pathogens. Overall, 42 water samples were collected from dental units in a teaching hospital in Palermo, Italy, including 21 samples from the 21 taps supplied by the municipal water distribution system and 21 samples from oral rinsing cups at 21 dental units. One of the first problems solved for any new identification types is the following: “Does the identifiability of classes U1 and U2 imply the identifiability of U1∪U2?” In this paper we are interested in a more general question: “Does the identifiability of every union of n−1 classes out of U1,...,Un imply the identifiability of U1∪...∪Un?” If the answer is positive, we call such identification type n-closed. Effects of Parietaria judaica pollen extract on human microvascular endothelial cells

Abstract Pollinosis from Parietaria judaica is one of the main causes of allergy in the Mediterranean area. The present study is designed to assess if P. judaica pollens contain bioactive compounds able to elicit a functional response in endothelial cells. We have demonstrated that addition of pollen extract to human lung microvascular endothelial cells (HMVEC-L) induces a modification of cell morphology, actin cytoskeletal rearrangements and an increase in endothelial cell permeability. Furthermore, on the basis of unpublished archival materials (school registers and student workbooks) it is possible to shed light on the ancient authors explained at school, the teaching methods, and the study practices.
An Alternative Paradigm to Evaluate the Acquisition of the van Hiele Levels

This article presents an alternative way of analyzing the van Hiele level of students’ geometrical reasoning. We evaluate the students’ answers, taking into account the van Hiele level they reflect and their mathematical accuracy. This gives us a description of how accomplished the students are in applying the procedures associated with each of the van Hiele levels and allows us to determine the students’ degree of acquisition of the van Hiele levels. Il progetto di rilievo, scavo, studio e valorizzazione del teatro romano di Althiburos (El M’deïna, Tunisia) vede coinvolti l’Institut National du Patrimoine, l’Università di Macerata ed il Politecnico di Bari. Nelle tre campagne sinora svolte è stato iniziato il programma di rilievo del monumento e catalogo degli elementi architettonici e sono stati iniziati alcuni saggi stratigrafici che hanno permesso di indagare le fasi più tarde della vita dell’edificio, da quando cioè, in età bizantina, il teatro venne trasformato in fortezza sino all’età moderna.
