Dipeptidyl Nitroalkenes as Potent Reversible Inhibitors of Cysteine Proteases Rhodesain and Cruzain.
2016
Dipeptidyl nitroalkenes are potent reversible inhibitors of cysteine proteases. Inhibitor 11 resulted to be the most potent one with Ki values of 0.49 and 0.44 nM against rhodesain and cruzain, respectively. According to enzymatic dilution and dialysis experiments, as well as computational and NMR studies, dipeptidyl nitroalkenes are tightly binding covalent reversible inhibitors. Longitudinal associations of student–teacher relationships and behavioural and emotional strengths on academic achievement
2017
Positive student–teacher relationships are related to students’ academic achievement and behavioural and emotional adjustment. How a student’s behavioural and emotional strengths are associated with these relationships and how the relationships influence students’ academic performance remains unknown. We examined this framework using a cross-lagged panel model with a group of Finnish students and their parents from Grade 5 to Grade 7. The results revealed that the parents rated behavioural and emotional strengths are stable over a 1-year (r = .78) and 2-year (r = .71) period and that students’ perceptions of student–teacher relationships demonstrated greater change over time (r’s = .54, .35…
Professional agency in the stream of change: Understanding educational change and teachers' professional identities
2015
The qualitative meta-study reported here investigated Finnish vocational teachers' professional agency amid an educational reform. Differences were found in teachers' agency regarding their work, their involvement with the reform, and their professional identity. The manifestations of agency could remain stable or could change over time, and agency drew on various resources (e.g. teacher identity and the organizational management culture). The theoretical conclusions encompass professional agency as multidimensional, largely individually varied, temporally imbued, and both socially and individually resourced. Based on the findings, an agency-centered approach is proposed as a means of under…
Character Education and Children’s Literature. An Opportunity to Experiment Innovative and Reflective Teaching.
2016
Discussion focuses on how literature can be brought into the curriculum in helping to develop character traits in a meaningful, substantial manner. The book examines also how using the flipped classroom model provides opportunities to design and deliver courses using active learning and engagement strategies to facilitate students’ teamwork, problem solving and critical thinking skills in a collegial environment.
DESIGNING A TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR CHARACTER EDUCATION: AN INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP
2020
There is a need of innovative teacher training programmes for character education. This paper addresses three research questions: What are the challenges that a teacher training programme for character education should address? What are the learning outcomes that the programme should achieve? How should the programme be structured for supporting the achievement of those learning outcomes? Two regional authorities, three schools, three universities and a centre of teacher training from Latvia, Estonia and Spain created a strategic partnership for answering these research questions, using design-based implementation research. The results include six domains of learning outcomes and a programm…
Insights into the evolutionary history of the subfamily orthotrichoideae (Orthotrichaceae, Bryophyta): new and former supra-specific taxa so far obsc…
2021
Mosses of the subfamily Orthotrichoideae represent one of the main components of the cryptogam epiphytic communities in temperate areas. During the last two decades, this taxonomical group has undergone an extensive revision that has led to its rearrangement at the generic level. However, their phylogenetic relationships and inferences on the evolutionary patterns that have driven the present diversity have little advanced. In this study, we present a dated molecular phylogenetic reconstruction at the subfamily level, including 130 samples that represent the 12 genera currently recognized within the subfamily, and the analysis of four molecular markers: ITS2, rps4, trnG, and trnL-F. We also…
The vegetation of a historic road system in the suburban area of Monte Pellegrino (Palermo, Sicily)
2020
Knowledge of the processes by which plants colonize old structures is a key element for nature-based design both in urban and suburban contexts. This paper analyses the natural vegetation on walls and in other microhabitats of the roadway structures of Monte Pellegrino (606 m a.s.l.) near Palermo (Sicily), built in the first half of the 1900s. The historical road has particular construction and architectural features, and its characteristics have been maintained to this day. The route, approximately 16 kilometers long, is well integrated within a site of high naturalistic value which has been designated as a Special Area of Conservation (ITA020014) of the Natura 2000 network, and it is also…
