ICT AND INNOVATIVE TEACHING FOR EDUCATIONAL SUCCESS IN THE FIRST CYCLE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL

2013

In order to trigger an effective process for the improvement of teaching, we need to have reliable and comparable results, collected by a system of objective assessment of learning. We present the results of a research project – based on the measurement of learning standards, carried out through an external evaluation integrated with the internal evaluation prepared by the teachers. The project was aimed both at improving the performance of individual pupils and, secondly,at enhancing teachers’ professional skills. The project goals consisted in supporting teachers of secondary schoo ls (first level) in the development of those skills considered essential to improve the quality of education…

TEACHERS’ READINESS TO IMPLEMENT THE ACQUISITION OF TRANSVERSAL SKILLS IN THE CONTEXT OF THE NEW STANDARD

2019

In today’s rapidly changing world, when information technologies are developing very fast, a new change of the paradigm of the educational system is needed. It means that a teacher’s pedagogical activities also have to change – from an educator to a cooperation partner in the teaching/learning process. National Centre for Education (NCE)  has worked out a new ”Competence approach to teaching/learning content”, the aim of which is to ensure the acquisition of the content of general education based on competence approach, and which embraces all stages in education. The objective of the article is to reveal the essence of competence approach and the readiness of primary school teachers to imple…

2013

Quantum Physics is a very important part of Physics. In this paper we analyze its teaching and learning in high school and we show the students’ main difficulties, particularly the ontological and epistemological. This article presents some reasoned arguments against traditional methods to teach Quantum Physics. Finally, a new approach to quantum Physics teaching is showed.

Students' Understanding of the Special Theory of Relativity and Design for a Guided Visit to a Science Museum

2009

International audience; This paper describes the design of teaching materials that are used as learning tools in school visits to a science museum. An exhibition on the A century of the Special Theory of Relativity, in the Kutxaespacio Science Museum, in San Sebastian (Spain), was used to design a visit for first year engineering students at the university and assess the learning which was achieved. The first part of the paper presents the teaching sequence which was designed to build a bridge between formal teaching and the exhibition visit. The second part analyses the potential of the exhibition and the aforementioned teaching sequence to influence the students' knowledge of three aspect…

Teaching of energy issues: A debate proposal for a global reorientatiom

2007

The growing awareness of serious difficulties in the learning of energy issues has produced a great deal of research, most of which is focused on specific conceptual aspects. In our opinion, the difficulties pointed out in the literature are interrelated and connected to other aspects (conceptual as well as procedural and axiological), which are not sufficiently taken into account in previous research. This paper aims to carry out a global analysis in order to avoid the more limited approaches that deal only with individual aspects. From this global analysis we have outlined 24 propositions that are put forward for debate to lay the foundations for a profound reorientation of the teaching o…

Promoting Inquiry Based Learning through entertaining science activities

2021

Considering students’ increasing lack of interest and motivation for science subjects, it becomes almost imperative to introduce different methodology approaches in classrooms. Besides, decontextualized science teaching, where hands on activities are not sufficiently taken into account, can make the students attitude toward science-learning even worse. Inquiry Based Learning where elements such as games, toys and short experiments are included is showed as a useful methodological proposal. This paper presents how the use of these entertaining science activities can improve students’ interest and encourage them to speak about science, acquiring better argumentation and inquiry skills when th…

MaT²SMC: materials for teaching together: science andmMathematics teachers collaborating for better results

2016

Let us start with an important statement: Mathematics and Science teachers do a good, and often an outstanding, job in teaching young people the basic knowledge of their respective fields! It is not the intent of this book to criticize what they do or how they do it. Keeping that in mind, and noting the fact that the teaching content of these fields intersects and overlaps, we observed – and this took us by surprise – that there is hardly any collaboration or consultancy between mathematics and science teachers (or textbook authors). Mathematics teachers often use science contexts in tasks, and science teachers often use mathematics, however they are usually working independently. Science c…
