Students' abilities to evaluate the credibility of online texts: The role of internet‐specific epistemic justifications
2021
Previous evaluation studies have rarely used authentic online texts and investigated upper secondary school students' use of evaluation criteria and deep reasoning. The associations between internet-specific epistemic justifications for knowing and credibility evaluation of online texts are not yet fully understood among adolescents. This study investigated upper secondary school students' (N = 372) abilities to evaluate self-selected authentic online texts and the role of internet-specific epistemic justifications in students' evaluation performance when solving a health-related information problem. Students selected three texts with Google Custom Search Engine and evaluated their credibil…
Urheilun ja opiskelun yhdistäminen nuoren urheilijan elämässä urheiluakatemiaympäristössä : "urheilijoilla on valmiudet hoitaa koulu asiallisesti. Se…
2014
Urhei…
Adaptive forest governance to face land use change impacts in Italy: a review
2015
Origins and originality : Authenticity in the media representation of Julie Fowlis
2018
This article examines the ways in which Scottish Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis is constructed ‘authentic’ in the media. Two narratives that I call ‘narrative of origins’ and ‘narrative of professionalism’ construct her authenticity as a representative of the folk music scene. Fowlis represents the new Gaelic speaker, but is presented in terms of stereotypical imagery connected to Scotland, which portrays tradition as stagnant, quaint and in need of preservation. However, she is also presented as a professional artist, remaking and reinterpreting the tradition of a living culture that she represents. Thus, here authenticity ascribed on the artist is viewed as a cultural memory device, built on …

A methodological framework based on a DANP model for evaluating the software quality in terms of usability: a preliminary investigation on mobile ope…
2020
Evaluation of the software usability as concerns software alternatives represents a typical Multi- Criteria Decision-Analysis (MCDA) problem. Such a kind of problem can be successfully faced via structured models and approaches which validity have been widely shown in literature. In this work, a methodological framework based on a MCDA model integrating the DEMATEL method along with the ANP technique is proposed and explained with more detail to address the relevant issue of the software usability evaluation. The applicability of the considered DEMATEL-ANP (DANP) based model in the under analysis contest is demonstrated via a preliminary investigation, where the usability of the two major M…
INNATE IMMUNITY AND INFLAMMATION IN AGEING: A KEY FOR UNDERSTANDING AGE-RELATED DISEASES.
2005
Abstract The process of maintaining life for the individual is a constant struggle to preserve his/her integrity. This can come at a price when immunity is involved, namely systemic inflammation. Inflammation is not per se a negative phenomenon: it is the response of the immune system to the invasion of viruses or bacteria and other pathogens. During evolution the human organism was set to live 40 or 50 years; today, however, the immune system must remain active for much a longer time. This very long activity leads to a chronic inflammation that slowly but inexorably damages one or several organs: this is a typical phenomenon linked to ageing and it is considered the major risk factor for a…
Innate Immune Cells' Contribution to Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
2019
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by the presence of autoantibodies against nuclear antigens, immune complex deposition, and tissue damage in the kidneys, skin, heart and lung. Because of the pathogenic role of antinuclear antibodies and autoreactive T cells in SLE, extensive efforts have been made to demonstrate how B cells act as antibody-producing or as antigen-presenting cells that can prime autoreactive T cell activation. With the discovery of new innate immune cells and inflammatory mediators, innate immunity is emerging as a key player in disease pathologies. Recent work over the last decade has highlighted the importance of innate immun…
Are Toll-like receptors and decoy receptors involved in the immunopathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus and lupus-like syndromes?
2011
In this paper we focus our attention on the role of two families of receptors, Toll-like receptors (TLR) and decoy receptors (DcR) involved in the generation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and lupus-like syndromes in human and mouse models. To date, these molecules were described in several autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, antiphospholipids syndrome, bowel inflammation, and SLE. Here, we summarize the findings of recent investigations on TLR and DcR and their role in the immunopathogenesis of the SLE.
