The role of implicit theories in the non-expert translation process

Research into the role of implicit theories in decision-making covers a broad area ranging from personal to political relationships, and from private to professional life. To date, translation studies have paid little attention to the influence of translators’ knowledge and beliefs in the translation process, and even less to the role of implicit theories. In a pilot study with translation trainees, we attempted to reconstruct their theories about translation and discern to what extent these theories influence both the translation process and the translated text. Movilidad humana: una revisión teórica aplicable de los flujos migratorios en España

El texto tiene el objetivo de realizar una revisión teórica aplicable entorno a las migraciones en el contexto particular español. Se ha realizado una revisión bibliográfica aplicable disponible en torno al tema, con el fin de ofrecer una recopilación y selección de la información disponible a este respecto partiendo de la dicotomía que haría en su momento López de Lera (1995), los que “vienen a descansar y los que vienen a trabajar”. Es importante porque el desarrollo teórico de sendas perspectivas de la migración es divergente. Este es el aporte del texto, realizar un recorrido por los dos caminos migratorios y delimitar las principales corrientes.

In this paper I try to revise Sen’s thesis about the «transcendental» nature of Rawls’ theory of justice. According to Sen transcendental theories of justice are unnecessary. What we aim at is to justify a series of comparative judgements about two or more states of affairs.We do not strive, unlike Rawls, to form a complete system of moral principles that backs an «ideal just society». I try to show that Sen’s «comparative» account is weak. First of all, Sen does not offer a fair interpretation of Rawls’ theory. While the role of social media in the spread of conspiracy theories has received much attention, a key deficit in previous research is the lack of distinction between different types of platforms. This study places the role of social media affordances in facilitating the spread of conspiracy beliefs at the center of its enquiry. We examine the relationship between platform use and conspiracy theory beliefs related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
