In Mediterranean Europe, terrace landscapes can be found where 1) the orography is characterized by hills or mountains, 2) there is a high amount of stone outcrops and 3) the human need for agricultural production was quite high till the recent past. During the last century, many of these landscapes have been abandoned, due to their unsuitability for mechanized, intensive agriculture and due to the general land abandonment trend which arised in large parts of Europe. Nel saggio sono indagati i multiformi significati e le diverse declinazioni attribuite agli spazi domestici nella produzione di Giorgio Caproni. Partendo dalla disamina di "La Maliarda" e passando in rassegna altri racconti caproniani, vengono individuate alcune costanti tematiche e la funzione meta narrativa associata al topos della terrazza. Essa, territorio di confine tra terra, mare e cielo, è infatti luogo privilegiato delle “città dell’anima”, è spazio del paradosso, della memoria e, soprattutto, luogo della narrazione.

Italy has a rich natural heritage, which is dangerously under pressure. In recent years, there is an increased awareness of the crucial role of plants in ecosystem functioning and in providing ecosystem services. Consequently, an updated Red List of the Italian vascular flora was compiled in this work, at the request of the Ministry for Environment, Land and Sea Protection, with the scientific support of the Italian Botanical Society. The IUCN Red List criteria were applied to 2,430 Italian native vascular plant taxa to assess their current extinction risk and to highlight the major threats affecting the Italian flora. Presencia y análisis genético de una tortuga bastarda (Lepidochelys kempii) en el mar Mediterráneo

We report on a juvenile Kemp´s ridley sea turtle, Lepidochelys kempii, captured alive by fishermen in the waters off Alicante (western Mediterranean, Spain) on October 15th 2001. The analysis of a 460 base pair fragment of the mt DNA control region revealed a perfect match with haplotype D previously described in this species. This is the second report of L. kempii in the Mediterranean basin.
Tourism in Mediterranean Islands: a comparative analysis.

This chapter analyses the main dimensions of 24 Mediterranean islands representing seven European countries. It highlights some of the economic barriers to sustainability. Islands are classified by area into large, medium, small and micro, and also by population density- from high to low. The Mediterranean islands represent a wide variety of situations and common problems, and every economic decision has had an immediate impact on the sustainability of the economies of each island.
