Il terremoto del Belice o del fraintendimento

2009

GEOMETRIC AND RADIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF PAINTINGS

2010

The paper reports an overview of some experiences carried out by some Italian research groups (Politecnico di Milano, University of Palermo, Bruno Kessler Foundation in Trento) aimed to assess the conservation‟s state of some analysed paintings and provide useful information for further diagnostic applications. The activities were accomplished in interdisciplinary teams composed of photogrammetrists, surveyors, restorers and experts of non-destructive diagnostic techniques for Cultural Heritage. Two main aspects are considered: (i) the analysis of the radiometric contents using multispectral images and (ii) the 3D surveying for geometric deformation analysis by means of photogrammetry and l…

Comparative investigation of the macromolecular composition of mycelia forms Thielavia terrestris by infrared spectroscopy

1999

Using analytical and infrared spectroscopic methods, the differences between the composition of diffuse and pellet forms of mycelium of the ascomycete Thielavia terrestris were described. Quantitative estimates of the amounts of protein, nucleic acids and carbohydrates in T. terrestris showed a predominance of catabolic processes in the metabolism of the pelleted form, in comparison to the diffused form.

Mapping and determinism of soil microbial community distribution across an agricultural landscape.

2015

Article en open access; International audience; Despite the relevance of landscape, regarding the spatial patterning of microbial communities and the relative influence of environmental parameters versus human activities, few investigations have been conducted at this scale. Here, we used a systematic grid to characterize the distribution of soil microbial communities at 278 sites across a monitored agricultural landscape of 13km(2). Molecular microbial biomass was estimated by soil DNA recovery and bacterial diversity by 16S rRNA gene pyrosequencing. Geostatistics provided the first maps of microbial community at this scale and revealed a heterogeneous but spatially structured distribution…

Novel virocell metabolic potential revealed in agricultural soils by virus-enriched soil metagenome analysis

2021

International audience; Viruses are now recognized as important players in microbial dynamics and biogeochemical cycles in the oceans. Yet, compared with aquatic ecosystems, virus discovery in terrestrial ecosystems has been challenging partly due to the inherent complexity of soils. To expand our understanding of soil viruses and their putative contributions to soil microbial processes, we analysed metagenomes of community-level virus-enriched suspensions by tangential flow filtration obtained from two French agricultural soils. We found viral sequences representing a total of 239 viral operational taxonomic units that corresponded to 29.5% of the mapping reads in the metagenomic datasets.…

Top predators, mesopredators and their prey: interference ecosystems along bioclimatic productivity gradients

2010

1. The Mesopredator Release Hypothesis (MRH) suggests that top predator suppression of mesopredators is a key ecosystem function with cascading impacts on herbivore prey, but it remains to be shown that this top-down cascade impacts the large-scale structure of ecosystems. 2. The Exploitation Ecosystems Hypothesis (EEH) predicts that regional ecosystem structures are determined by top-down exploitation and bottom-up productivity. In contrast to MRH, EEH assumes that interference among predators has a negligible impact on the structure of ecosystems with three trophic levels. 3. We use the recolonization of a top predator in a three-level boreal ecosystem as a natural experiment to test if l…
