Businesses as one of the key elements of a regions sustainable development.

The regionalization and local development, encouraged by the European Union involves the notion of territory. Today territory or region should be seen as a system of actors. The concept of sustainable development should be taken into account by these actors. Businesses (especially SMEs) whose aim is to assure local development, economic growth and job creation are one of the key elements of territorys sustainability.

We propose a conceptual and graphical model of the territory built from an empirical intuitive and deductive approach of systemic paradigm of territorialization. This model is based on an individualized approach before being extended to the collective level. It is first seen in the context of the evolution of the concept in scientific thinking. Then, we introduce it in understanding the dynamics of the territory, under the paradigm of territorial intelligence, through observation and observatories that we adapt to the context of governance systems at different scales.

The territorial presentation of performance: the sustainability reports in automotive and aerial transport industries in Asia and EuropaThis research studies the sustainability reports of 18 automobile constructors and airlines companies for 2011. The study aims at identifying the objectives pursued by these firms and analyzing both similarities and differences. Introducing the concept of territory, we propose to consider sustainability reports as tools for a story-telling that would reconcile the social and the economic dimensions of the firms.

Based on a study of an online diploma we propose a model to analyse collective media spaces. The model takes into account the spatial turn for online mediated spaces and seeks to acknowledge the spatial nature of such spaces. Our model allows us to include notions like change, cultural identity and emerging communities. It can be used to analyse other media spaces, beyond its initial target, online learning spaces, be it traditionnel media (TV, radio, print) or other online spaces (intranets, social websites and networks...).

This has been a topic that engaged the proposed research team for several years, particularly in the frame of two European projects, Archeomedes I & II, during the 1990s (Van der Leeuw S., Favory F., Fiches J.- L. (eds.) 2003, Favory F., Girardot J.-J., van der Leeuw S. 2004). Both French and Slovenian teams were involved in the project by Professors S. Van der Leeuw and Z. Stančič. By discussing the concept of development itself, authors propose two synthetic indexes relying on estimation of potential: Development Space Value and Development Space Creation Under the weak hypothesis that any successful development improves future possibilities, changes in potential are a good development measure. In their path, authors show how development space is tied with freedom: a shrink in it results mechanically in indexes fall. So, "sustainable" and "economic" become two sides of same piece rather than enemies. Reliable in simulations, the approach is to be tested in real conditions, to verify full data availability and to secure calculating methods.

This paper analyses the relations between thematization of the territory and symbolic elaboration of identity in Carme Riera’s narrative: in two inicial short story collections, Te deix, amor, la mar com a penyora and Jo pos per testimoni les gavines,and in two novels: Dins el darrer blau and La meitat de l’ànima. The aim of the research is to show that, according to the works, the identity value of Mallorca arises either from a sentimental perspective, or in terms of moral or in terms of culturaltransmission, in literary key.
