In the preceding chapters, we carefully revised the history of colonial expeditions, the intersection of the native “Other” with science, and the evolution of leisure travels and the consolidation of the tourism industry. We make the point that after the terrorist attacks in 2001 in the US, Western civilization entered a state of crisis which gradually tended to demonize the non-Western “Other”. The issue of «Meridiana» analyses counter-terrorism and mafia strategies over the course of Italian history from a double viewpoint (both legal and historical). The contributions of the different authors follow the evolution of criminal, substantive and procedural rules while identifying a unitary, «emerging» trait. Exceptionality, which has become one of the permanent characteristics of the Italian criminal justice system. The studies of some famous cases highlights the twists of the legal categories, the use of repentants, and the close collaboration between the judges and the public prosecutors. RESUMEN: El presente trabajo aborda el análisis de los requisitos generales de aplicabilidad del nuevo subtipo atenuado previsto en el art. 579 bis 4) del Código penal introducido por la reforma de 2015; es decir: de aquellas exigencias o condiciones que, en el ámbito de los delitos de terrorismo, permitirían afirmar con carácter general que unos hechos delictivos son objetivamente de menor gravedad. Immediately following the 9/11 attacks, a number of picture books for children were published as a response to the new socio-political context in the United States. This article explores how these books constitute an essentialist discourse whose themes and perspectives can be considered strategic. As will be analyzed, they reveal a ¿natural¿ positioning that generates a degree of group identification and constructs drastic dichotomies such as us versus them, by overlooking internal differences, reasserting the values of patriotism and national identity, and fostering the emergence of jingoistic dynamics that bring difference / sameness into play.
