Klātienē un attālināti veiktu datorizētu kognitīvo testu rezultātu atšķirības
2019
Bakalaura darba mērķis ir noskaidrot, vai pastāv datorizētu kognitīvu testu rezultātu atšķirības, tos administrējot klātienē vai attālināti. Pētījumā piedalījās 98 dalībnieki, no kuriem 67 (68%) bija sievietes, 31 (32%) bija vīrietis, vecumā no 19 līdz 49 gadiem, vidējais vecums 25,59 gadi (SD=7,38), savukārt, attālināti vidēji 48 dalībnieki, no kuriem 36 (75%) bija sievietes un 12 (25%) vīrieši, grupas vidējais vecums 27,84 gadi(SD=8,62). Kognitīvo spēju mērīšanai tika izmantoti tādi instrumenti, kā simbolu šifrēšanas tests, verbālās atmiņas tests, vizuālās uzmanības un vizuālās vadības tests (Stroop tests) funkciju novērtēšanai. Pētījuma dalībnieki datorizētus kognitīvus testus pildīja ga…
Metabolomics: An Emerging Approach to Understand Pathogenesis and to Assess Diagnosis and Response to Treatment in Spondyloarthritis
2022
Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is a group of rheumatic diseases whose pathogenesis relies on a complex interplay between genetic and environmental factors. Over the last several years, the importance of the alteration of the gut microbiota, known as dysbiosis, and the interaction of bacterial products with host immunity have been highlighted as intriguing key players in SpA development. The recent advent of the so called “-omics” sciences, that include metabolomics, opened the way to a new approach to SpA through a deeper characterisation of the pathogenetic mechanisms behind the disease. In addition, metabolomics can reveal potential new biomarkers to diagnose and monitor SpA patients. The aim of…

Validity of the compulsive exercise test in regular exercisers
2021
Measurement of compulsive exercise is important for the study of eating pathology in individuals who regularly participate in sport and exercise. The current study examined the factor structure, internal consistency and validity of the compulsive exercise test (CET) in regular exercisers. Participants were recruited via the internet and from sport clubs (n = 313 adults; M = 32 years; 57% female). A three-factor model for the CET was supported which included the weight control exercise, avoidance and rule-driven behaviour, and mood improvement subscales (fit statistics for the three-factor model: χ2SB = 4.39; CFI = .95; NNFI = .94, RMSEA = .100, 95% CI: .093—.110, AIC = 656.92). The subscale…
DigiTala research project : automatic speech recognition in assessing L2 speaking
2020
In this article, we discuss the premise of assessing oral language skills with the help of automatic speech recognition. We present the main goals and working methods in DigiTala project (2019–2023) – a research project between University of Helsinki, Aalto University and University of Jyväskylä that aims at developing a digital tool for assessing and practicing oral language skills. Ultimately, this digital tool would enable implementing tasks measuring oral skills into the language tests of the Matriculation Examination. nonPeerReviewed
DEPS-testin luotettavuus ja pätevyys aikuisilla selkäpotilailla
2017
The Depression Scale (DEPS) is a patient-reported outcome instrument developed to recognize depressive symptoms. This study measured the psychometric properties of the DEPS among patients with degenerative spinal disease. Altogether 637 patients were included in the analysis. Main research question was whether the DEPS would meet pertinent psychometric criteria for reliability and validity. The results of analyses supported the DEPS instrument as a reliable and valid test to measure depressive symptoms among adult patients with spinal disease fulfilling the psychometric criteria. nonPeerReviewed
Why is the hypothetico-deductive (H-D) method in information systems not an H-D method?
2020
The hypothetico-deductive (H-D) method is reported to be common in information systems (IS). In IS, the H-D method is often presented as a Popperian, Hempelian, or natural science method. However, there are many fundamental differences between what Popper or Hempel actually say and what the alleged H-D method per Hempel or per Popper means in IS. To avoid possible misunderstanding and conceptual confusion about the basic philosophical concepts, we explain some of these differences, which are not mentioned in IS literature describing the H-D model. Due to these distinctive differences, the alleged H-D method per Hempel or per Popper in IS cannot be regarded as the H-D model per Hempel or per…
Phenolic Profiles, Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Hydrodistillation Wastewaters from Five Lamiaceae Species
2022
Distillation is the most widely used method to obtain an essential oil from plant material. The biomass used in the process is returned as a solid residue together with variable amounts of water rich in water-soluble compounds, which currently are not addressed to any further application. The scope of this work was to evaluate the phytochemical composition of wastewaters coming from hydrodistillation (DWWs) of five aromatic plants belonging to the Lamiaceae family, and to assess their in vitro antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. The phenolic profiles of the DWWs were determined by HPLC-DAD and HPLC-ESI/MS. Free radical scavenging ability, oxygen radical antioxidant capacity and su…
