Bene : Adverb or noun?
2013
International audience; When Italian bene ‘good / well’ occurs with fare ‘do / make’, several constructs with remarkably different argument frames are involved. This paper deals with three of them: (a) Il latte fa bene ai bambini ‘Milk is good for children’; (b) Fa bene il suo lavoro ‘She does her job well’, and (c) Faresti bene a non dire niente ‘You would do well to say nothing about it’. We discuss dictionary discrepancies concerning the lexical category of 'bene' in (a), which we take to be a noun predicate, and draw a distinction between the adverbial uses in (b) and (c).
Reading comprehension: think and know verbs.
2004
Verbs such as think, know, remember, and guess play a pivotal role in understanding, monitoring, and transformation of internal states. We focus on the specific words as think and know, polysemous cognitive verbs that show hierarchical organization and high frequency of use in children's and adults' lexicons. According to Booth and Hall's model, think and know present a conceptual organization that involves low conceptual levels (perception, memory, comprehension) and high conceptual levels (evaluation, metacognition, planning). The aim of this research was to study the relationship between children's comprehension of text processing and the conceptual levels of the above-described verbs. …
A Survey on Ontology Evaluation Methods
2015
International audience; Ontologies nowadays have become widely used for knowledge representation, and are considered as foundation for Semantic Web. However with their wide spread usage, a question of their evaluation increased even more. This paper addresses the issue of finding an efficient ontology evaluation method by presenting the existing ontology evaluation techniques, while discussing their advantages and drawbacks. The presented ontology evaluation techniques can be grouped into four categories: gold standard-based, corpus-based, task-based and criteria based approaches.
Overview of the Evalita 2014 SENTIment POLarity Classification Task
2014
International audience; English. The SENTIment POLarity Classification Task (SENTIPOLC), a new shared task in the Evalita evaluation campaign , focused on sentiment classification at the message level on Italian tweets. It included three subtasks: subjectivity classification, polarity classification, and irony detection. SENTIPOLC was the most participated Evalita task with a total of 35 submitted runs from 11 different teams. We present the datasets and the evaluation methodology, and discuss results and participating systems. Italiano. Descriviamo modalit a e risultati della campagna di valutazione di sistemi di sentiment analysis (SENTIment POLarity Classification Task), proposta per la …
Auditory temporal processing in schizophrenia: high level rather than low level deficits?
2006
INTRODUCTION: Patients with schizophrenia demonstrate a wide range of information processing deficits. Most recent studies argue in favour of high level deficits, including attention and context processing, whereas fewer studies have demonstrated deficits at earlier stages of processing, such as perceptual discrimination and organisation. This is the first study to investigate both high and low level processing, within a single paradigm, in the case of auditory temporal processing in schizophrenia. METHODS: Patients with schizophrenia were compared to controls on a series of tasks involving three auditory temporal processes varying from low to higher level: (1) segregation of a complex sequ…
Theognis of Megara and the Divine Creating Power in the Framework of Semiotic Textology: An Application of János Sándor Petöfi’s Theory to Archaic Gr…
2012
This paper is a demonstration of an application of Semiotic Textology to a limited case study. The main aspects of Semiotic Textology, the theory elaborated by Petöfi, are presented; secondly the linguistic aspects of the interpretation of lines 133-134 of the Theognis of Megara's poem, analysed in the framework of said theory, are presented. All the relevant syntactic, semantic, pragmatic information involved in text processing have been considered. Through fixed steps, it is shown that text processing is not exclusively a grammatical activity, because within a theoretical interpretation an Interpreter needs a number of contextual hypotheses, in order to understand the author's ontology. ©…
Continuum : un modèle spatio-temporel et sémantique pour la découverte de phénomènes dynamiques au sein d’environnements géospatiaux
2015
There is a need for decision-makers to be provided with both an overview of existing knowledge, and information which is as complete and up-to-date as possible on changes in certain features of the biosphere. Another objective is to bring together all the many attempts which have been made over the years at various levels (international, Community, national and regional) to obtain more information on the environment and the way it is changing. As a result, remote sensing tools monitor large amount of land cover informations enabling study of dynamic processes. However the size of the dataset require new tools to identify pattern and extract knowledge. We propose a model to discover knowledg…
Multi-Domain Retrieval of Geospatial Data Sources Implementing a Semantic Catalogue
2015
International audience; Nowadays, the expertise of a user plays an important role in the search and retrieval in the information systems that usually combines general and specialized knowledge in the construction of queries. In addition, most of the queries systems are currently restricted on specific domains. Tackling these issues, we propose a methodology that implements a semantic catalogue in order to provide a smart queries system for retrieving data sources on the web by means of the extension of the user expertise. We propose the combination of a query expansion method, and the use of similarity measures and controlled vocabularies. Thus, it allows the system to recommend data source…
Multidimensional Land Cover Change Analysis using Vector Change and Land Cover Taxonomies
2015
International audience; Around the world, land cover changes occur due to natural and anthropogenic factors. In many cases, the consequences of anthropogenic interventions are unexpected. In order for scientists and policy makers to identify land cover change processes of interest, it is necessary suitable tools for early and efficient analysis of land cover data. In our research, we present a data model that makes use of semantic web technologies to manage a hierarchical structure of land cover types. Using this approach, it is possible to manage the land cover information at different levels of abstraction. In our research, we use a Change Vector Analysis approach to represent the land co…
