Although there is a substantial literature on the role of parenting in adolescent substance use, most parenting effects have been small in magnitude and studied outside the context of genetically informative designs, raising debate and controversy about the influence that parents have on their children (D. C. Rowe, 1994). Using a genetically informative twin-family design, the authors studied the role of parental monitoring on adolescent smoking at age 14. The diagnosis of ‘early inflamed’, ‘recurrent’ or ‘sub-acute’ appendicitis is often difficult and accompanied by controversies between clinical data, histological findings, and their interpretation. The expression of the intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), the vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), and E-selectin has been studied in 61 appendicectomy specimens for possible use as a diagnostic tool. Pipestem capillaries in necrotizing myopathy revisited.

Pipestem-capillaries in necrotizing myopathy, have been reported as a feature of a distinct type of myopathy. Here, we analyze four muscle biopsy specimens from patients exhibiting endomysial fibrosis associated with pipestem capillaries using histological and electronmicroscopic techniques. However, only one case displayed all of the originally described features, including necrotic fibres, capillary thickening and lack of a significant lymphocytic inflammation, while one case exhibited striking capillary pathology with minimal necrosis and absence of inflammation, and the other two cases were accompanied by additional pathological features. Many women with 21-hydroxylase (21-OH)-deficient nonclassic adrenal hyperplasia (NCAH) carry at least one allele containing a severe mutation of CYP21, and as such are at risk for giving birth to an infant having classic adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). Infants with NCAH typically are asymptomatic at birth, in contrast to those with CAH, but they do develop symptoms of hyperandrogenism later in childhood or as adults. The Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction and Frustration Scale (BPNSFS) is a self-report instrument assessing the satisfaction and frustration of the three basic psychological needs of autonomy, competence, and relatedness defined by self-determination theory. The aim of this study was to examine the dimensionality, the predictive validity, and the measurement invariance across different age groups of the Italian version of the BPNSFS. Context: Lipase maturation factor 1 (LMF1) gene is a novel candidate gene in severe hypertriglyceridemia. Lmf1 is involved in the maturation of lipoprotein lipase (LPL) and hepatic lipase in endoplasmic reticulum.
