Neural stem cells that continue to produce neurons are retained in the adult hippocampal dentate gyrus. The mechanisms by which embryonic neural progenitors expand and transform into postnatal neural stem cells, an essential process for the continual production of neurons throughout life, remain unknown. We found that radial astrocytes, the postnatal progenitors in the dentate gyrus, failed to develop after embryonic ablation of ciliary genes or Smoothened (Smo), an essential component for Sonic hedgehog (Shh) signaling. Two cDNA clones coding for S-adenosyl-L-methionine synthase (SAMs, EC 2.5.1.6) have been isolated from a cDNA library of gibberellic acid-treated unpollinated pea ovaries. Both cDNAs were sequenced showing a high degree of identity but coding for different SAMs polypeptides. The presence of two SAMs genes in pea was further confirmed by Southern analysis. Expression of the SAMs genes in the pea plant was found at different levels in vegetative and reproductive tissues. We characterized the expression levels of SAMs genes during the development or senescence of pea ovaries. International audience; The origin of enantioselectivity in the reaction of chiral Ru amino amide complexes in the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of acetophenone was investigated using DFT calculations. For the most stable active catalysts, the full free energy profiles for the reaction were calculated according to the concerted hydrogen transfer mechanism. We succeeded in reproducing the experimentally observed enantioselectivity for the studied Ru amino amide complexes. FT-ICR MS studies of ion-molecule reactions of Ru+ and Os+ with oxygen

Abstract The reactions of stored ruthenium and osmium cations with oxygen have been studied in a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometer. In case of osmium the reaction products OsO+ and OsO 2 + have been observed and corresponding reaction-rate constants have been determined. In addition, there is an unreactive fraction of Os+ ions due to the presence of a slightly endothermic reacting ground state. Only the excited states react with oxygen. For ruthenium no spontaneous reaction with oxygen has been observed unless the cyclotron motion of Ru+ was excited. Ruthenium oxide nanotubes were fabricated by a single-step galvanostatic deposition using porous anodic alumina membrane as template. For the electrodeposition process, we used a electrochemical cell specifically designed in order to employ only 0.5 ml of 0.02 M RuCl3•xH2O solution. In the present study, the chemical composition of the essential oil from the aerial parts of Anthemis secundiramea Biv. subsp. secundiramea L. collected in Sicily was evaluated by GC and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. The main components of A. secundiramea were (Z)-lyratyl acetate (14.6%), (Z)-chrysanthenyl acetate (9.9%), (Z)-chrysanthenol (8.7%) and (E)-chrysanthenyl acetate (7.7%). The comparing with other studied oils of genus Anthemis belonging to the same clade is discussed. Antibacterial and antifungal activities against some micro-organisms infesting historical art craft, were also determined.

Abstract Three new complexes of Ru(II), namely [RuCl 2 (Glun-N,O) 2 ]Na 2 ( I ; Glun = glucosaminate), [RuCl 2 (1-Tglu)(EtOH) 2 ]Na ( II ; 1-Tglu = 1-thio-β- d -glucose) and [Ru 2 (EtOH) 6 (AL)Cl 4 ] ( III ; AL = 6′-aminolactose) were prepared from the same Ru(II) precursor, [RuCl 2 (DMSO) 4 ] (DMSO = dimethyl sulfoxide). The characterization of the complexes was carried out by elemental analysis, FT-IR, ES-MS, NMR, EXAFS and DFT calculations. The effectiveness of the complexes on metastatic melanoma A 375 was investigated. The results show that complex II is the most active species.

Abstract Nanostructures composed of dextran sulfate (DS)/ruthenium (Ru) nanoparticles (NPs) adsorbed on phospholipid monolayers at a liquid–liquid interface were prepared and characterized electrochemically in relation to their potential use in drug delivery systems. First, positively charged Ru NPs were prepared, and then negatively charged DS was adsorbed on the surface of the NPs, thus forming well-defined and organized structures, as observed under the transmission electron microscope, which are referred to composite nanoclusters.
