Comparison of computational and experimental saturation vapor pressures of α-pinene + O3 oxidation products

2021

Abstract. Accurate information on gas-to-particle partitioning is needed to model secondary organic aerosol formation. However, determining reliable saturation vapor pressures of atmospherically relevant multifunctional organic compounds is extremely difficult. We estimated saturation vapor pressures of α-pinene ozonolysis derived secondary organic aerosol constituents using FIGAERO-CIMS experiments and COSMO-RS theory. We found a good agreement between experimental and computational saturation vapor pressures for molecules with molar masses around 190 g mol−1 and higher, most within a factor of 3 comparing the average of the experimental vapor pressures and the COSMO-RS estimate of the iso…

The impact of baking on chlorinated paraffins: Characterization of C10–C17 chlorinated paraffins in oven-baked pastry products and unprocessed pastry…

2019

Abstract This study presents an HPLC–ESI–Q–TOF method for simultaneous quantification of short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs, C10–13) and an additional characterization of medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs, C14–17) in oven-baked pastry products (n = 38) and unprocessed pastry dough material (n = 15). Almost 2 times higher SCCP levels were found in the dough material. ΣSCCP concentrations in products ranged from 0.3 ng g−1 to 23.0 ng g−1 (mean: 6.3 ng g−1), while the results for dough ranged from 5.8 ng g−1 to 22.8 ng g−1 (mean: 12.9 ng g−1). Regardless of the sample matrix, the most abundant CP homologue groups were hepta- and octa-chlorinated undecanes and dodecanes. The avera…

Direct determination of total mercury in phosphate rock using alkaline fusion digestion

2014

The aim of this work was to develop a new method to determine the mercury (Hg) concentrations in phosphate rock using a dedicated analytical instrument (the DMA80 Tricell by Milestone) that employs an integrated sequence of thermal decomposition followed by catalyst conversion, amalgamation and atomic absorption spectrophotometry. However, this instrument underestimates Hg concentrations when phosphorite and apatite rocks are investigated with a classic thermal decomposition treatment that complies with US EPA method 7473. Therefore, to improve the recovery of total Hg, we performed alkaline fusion digestion (AFD) directly inside the furnace of the instrument, using BCR(32) as a certified r…

A simple approach towards one-dimensional mesoporous carbon with superior electrochemical capacitive activity.

2009

One-dimensional (1D) mesoporous carbons with highly ordered 3D interconnected pore structure and large-diameter pore size (10–20 nm) have been synthesized by a simple precursor-controlled thermolysis approach; such unique carbonaceous frameworks show superior capacitive behavior in electrochemical double-layer capacitors.

Study of the thermal decomposition of bromazepan complexes with Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II)

1984

Abstract The thermal behaviour of complexes of bromazepan with Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) was studied by thermogravimetry (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The complexes decompose in two steps: dehydration and decomposition. A correlation between the dehydration temperatures of MB2Xn and the coordinating ability of X is observed.

Synthesis of Nanoferroics

2013

The Chapter covers the technological aspects of many chemical and physico-chemical nanofabrication methods relevant to making nanoferroic materials and composites. First, the classification of relevant synthesis methods of nanoferroics has been presented. Synthesis of particular nanoferroics with different chemical bonding like metallic, oxide and non-oxide compounds is considered in details. Among the methods, the mechanochemical, sonochemical, hydrothermal, co-precipitation, emulsion, thermal decomposition of unstable precursors have been analyzed. The competition between new phase nucleation and nuclei growth has been revealed to be controlled using feedback between reaction rate and tem…

A study of the thermal decomposition of amorphous bimetallic CDTA complexes

1989

Abstract The study of the thermal behaviour of a family of bimetallic amorphous MM'(CDTA)· n H 2 O complexes has been performed using TG and DTA. The complexes decompose in three steps: dehydration, ligand pyrolysis and inorganic residue evoluation.

Novel silicon microparticles to improve sunlight stability of raw polypropylene

2015

Oxidation of polyolefins by ultraviolet/visible irradiation is a significant limitation for their use in several technological applications. The use of high-tech additives such as silicon microparticles becomes a compositing strategy that can improve the performance of these materials at long-term service conditions. Silicon particles were added to non-additivated raw polypropylene (PP) prepared by hot melt extrusion and subjected to accelerated sunlight irradiation tests. The stability of thermal properties, mechanical performance and thermal decomposition behaviour of composites was evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis and thermogravimetry. T…
