Structural evolution of CO2 filled pure silica LTA zeolite under high-pressure high-temperature conditions
2017
[EN] The crystal structure of CO2-filled pure-SiO2 LTA zeolite has been studied at high pressures and temperatures using synchrotron-based X-ray powder diffraction. Its structure consists of 13 CO2 guest molecules, 12 of them accommodated in the large alpha-cages and one in the beta-cages, giving a SiO2/CO2 stoichiometric ratio smaller than 2. The structure remains stable under pressure up to 20 GPa with a slight pressure-dependent rhombohedral distortion, indicating that pressure-induced amorphization is prevented by the insertion of guest species in this open framework. The ambient temperature lattice compressibility has been determined. In situ high-pressure resistive-heating experiments…
Coefficient of thermal expansion and elastic modulus of thin films
1999
The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), biaxial modulus, and stress of some amorphous semiconductors (a-Si:H, a-C:H, a-Ge:H, and a-GeCx:H) and metallic (Ag and Al) thin films were studied. The thermal expansion and the biaxial modulus were measured by the thermally induced bending technique. The stress of the metallic films, deposited by thermal evaporation (Ag and Al), is tensile, while that of the amorphous films deposited by sputtering (a-Si:H, a-Ge:H, and a-GeCx:H) and by glow discharge (a-C:H) is compressive. We observed that the coefficient of thermal expansion of the tetrahedral amorphous thin films prepared in this work, as well as that of the films reported in literature, depen…
FORMATION OF FRACTAL MICRO- AND NANO-STRUCTURES IN CERAMIC TANTALUM PENTOXIDE UNDER CONCENTRATED FLUX OF LIGHT AND THEIR EFFECT ON THERMAL EXPANSION
2009
ABSTRACT Oxides of weak thermal expansion are the basis for stable ceramics and artefacts resistant to sharp cyclic variations of temperature. For technical applications is a wide interest in high-temperature materials of low or negative thermal expansion and, particularly, in studies of the micromechanisms in Ta2O5. Thermal expansion of ceramic pentoxides of tantalum is affected by conditions under which they are formed. After treatment by concentrated light flows anomalous segments of zero and even negative thermal expansion appear in ceramics of Ta2O5. The effect of treatment by concentrated light flux on formation of fractal nano-structures and thermal expansion of ceramic tantalum pent…
Physical and Chemical Principles of Obtaining Thermally Resistant Containers for Treatment of High Purity Niobium and Tantalum Compounds
2011
Mathematical modelling of the distribution of strain in layered quartz ceramics with protective coating of niobium (tantalum) pentoxide from two sides is reported. It is found that fragmentation of the basic layer (decreasing the area of the continuous boarder between layers) and smoothing of sharp edges of the base fragments should reduce the strains on the boundary between the substrate and coating and, correspondingly, enhance the thermal resistance of the samples. Treatment of the niobium pentoxide coating by concentrated light induces a network of fractal micro- and nano-size fractures that compensates the difference of thermal expansion between the layers.

Thermal Expansion, Burns Temperature and Electromechanical Properties in Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-SrTiO3-PbTiO3Solid Solutions
2011
Thermal expansion and electromechanical properties are studied for compositions Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-SrTiO3-PbTiO3, belonging to various locations in the phase diagram. The main purpose of the studies is to extend the range of physical properties, which characterise the relaxor state and could be used for comparison with other relaxors. Possibility to evaluate Burns temperature from thermal expansion is discussed. The obtained results are compared to the well-know relaxor ferroelectric PLZT.
Structural Stability of Hafnia-Based Materials at Ultra-High Temperature
2018
This study assesses the structural stability at ultra-high temperature of the following selected compositions: 6.5 and 14 mol. % of RE2O3 (RE = Dy, Y, Er, Yb, and Lu) doped HfO2. Under thermal cycling and thermal shock, the structural stability was evaluated at 2400°C with water vapor flux using a specific test bench with a 3 kW CO2 laser. The cubic phase stability, which is theoretically important in the broad temperature range from 25 to 2800°C, was determined by a quantitative analysis of the X-ray diffractograms. Fully and partially stabilized HfO2, obtained respectively with 14 mol. % and 6.5 mol. % of dopants, showed different behaviors to thermal damage. Thermal expansion was measure…
Thermal expansion, normalized thermo-optic coefficients, and condition for second harmonic generation of a Nd:YAG laser with wide temperature bandwid…
2011
Interferometric determination of thermal expansion and of normalized thermo-optic coefficients of RbTiOPO4 at four laser wavelengths are performed as a function of temperature. A suitable vectorial formalism applied to obtained data allows the establishment of the temperature dependence of refractive indices, and subsequent theoretical analysis enables one to predict that an extremum in the evolution of the phase-matching direction in the (X,Y) plane should occur near 100 °C for type II second harmonic generation of Nd:YAG lasers, with a temperature bandwidth that can be as large as 117 °C for a crystal of 10 mm in length. Such unusual behavior is observed experimentally by recording the co…
A magnetostrictive sensor interrogated by fiber gratings for DC-current and temperature discrimination
2000
A magnetostrictive sensor head with temperature compensation has been developed for measurement of static magnetic fields. The device consists on two different alloys with similar thermal expansion coefficient one of which has a giant magnetostriction, the expansion of both materials produced by heat and magnetism is detected by two fiber gratings. One of the gratings measures the temperature of the sensor and the difference between the wavelengths reflected by the gratings is a measurement of the magnetically induced strain.
Comprehensive formulation of temperature-dependent dispersion of optical materials: illustration with case of temperature tuning of a mid-IR HgGa_2S_…
2009
The temperature dependence of refractive indices of optical materials is characterized in this work by what we call their normalized thermo-optic coefficients. These are determined experimentally through interferometric measurements of thermal expansion and of changes in optical thickness at a few laser wavelengths as function of temperature. A suitable vectorial formalism applied to these data allows predicting the thermal evolution of the refractive index all over the useful range of transparency. The validity and reliability of our methodology is demonstrated through temperature tuning of a mid-IR HgGa2S4 optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped at 1.0642 μm by a Nd:YAG laser. Measured…
