Teraryl-based alpha-helix mimetics have resulted in efficient inhibitors of protein-protein interactions (PPIs). Extending the concept to even longer oligoarene systems would allow for the mimicking of even larger interaction sites. We present a highly efficient synthetic modular access to quateraryl alpha-helix mimetics, in which, at first, two phenols undergo electrooxidative dehydrogenative cross-coupling. The resulting 4,4′-biphenol is then activated by conversion to nonaflates, which serve as leaving groups for iterative Pd-catalyzed Suzuki-cross-coupling reactions with suitably substituted pyridine boronic acids. [Bis(phosphonio)isophosphindolide]silver complexes

The outcome of reactions of bis(phosphonio)isophosphindolide salts 1[X] and 6[X] (X- Cl-, Br-, CF3SO3-) with silver salts AgY (Y- = CF3SO3-, CF3CO2-, CH3CO2-, 1/2 SO4-) depends strongly on the available anions X, Y. If X-, Y- CF3SO3-, both mononuclear and dinuclear silver complexes are formed which exhibit either μ1,μ1(P) or μ2,η1(P) coordination of the cations 1, 6 to one or to both metals. In solution, dynamic equilibria between both types of products and free 1, 6 were detected by 31P-NMR spectroscopy. A series of double-stranded binuclear helicates [Co2(H1)2]4+, [Co2(H2)2]4+, and [Co2(H3)2]4+, derived from monodeprotonated bis-pyridyl hydrazine-based ligands of H21, H22, and H23 with one, two, and three -CH2 spacers, were obtained. These asymmetric-carbon-free racemic helicates were separated into their ΔΔ and ΛΛ enantiomers. The resolved helicates were examined for the first time as enantioselective catalysts in asymmetric benzoylation and nitroaldol reactions.

Cathodic Corrosion of Metal Electrodes—How to Prevent It in Electroorganic Synthesis

The critical aspects of the corrosion of metal electrodes in cathodic reductions are covered. We discuss the involved mechanisms including alloying with alkali metals, cathodic etching in aqueous and aprotic media, and formation of metal hydrides and organometallics. Successful approaches that have been implemented to suppress cathodic corrosion are reviewed. We present several examples from electroorganic synthesis where the clever use of alloys instead of soft neat heavy metals and the application of protective cationic additives have allowed to successfully exploit these materials as cathodes. Total Synthesis of (-)-Oxycodone via Anodic Aryl-Aryl Coupling.

A fully regio- and diastereoselective electrochemical 4a–2′-coupling of a 3′,4′,5′-trioxygenated laudanosine derivative enables the synthesis of the corresponding morphinandienone. This key intermediate is further transformed into (−)-oxycodone through conjugate nucleophilic substitution for E-ring closure and [4 + 2] cycloaddition with photogenerated singlet oxygen to accomplish diastereoselective hydroxylation at C-14. The anodic transformation provides high yields and can be performed under constant current conditions both in a simple undivided cell or in continuous flow.

A pentanuclear [CoII3CoIII2] cluster complex has been developed by a solvothermal synthesis. Its highly stable metal-mixed Fe–Co derivatives display robust spin crossover (T1/2 = 268 K) controlled by the degree of substitution.

Magnetostructural correlations in CuII−NC−WV linkage: the case of [CuII(diimine)]2+−[WV(CN)8]3− 0D assemblies

International audience; We report on the syntheses, crystal structures, and magnetic properties of two cyano-bridged molecular assemblies: [CuII(phen)3]2{[CuII(phen)2]2[WV(CN)8]2}(ClO4)2·10H2O (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) (1) and {[CuII(bpy)2]2[WV(CN)8]} {[CuII(bpy)2][WV(CN)8]}·4H2O (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridyl) (2). Compound 1 consists of cyano-bridged [CuII2WV2]2− molecular rectangles and isolated [CuII(phen)3]2+ complexes. The molecular structure of 2 reveals cyano-bridged trinuclear [CuII2WV]+ and dinuclear [CuIIWV]− ions. Electrochemical and spectroscopic studies of poly(diethoxyphosphoryl)porphyrins

Abstract The synthesis and electrochemical characterization of two related series of porphyrins bearing diethoxyphosphoryl groups are reported. One group of compounds is represented as (T( p -R)PP)M where R = phos = P(O)(OEt) 2 and M = Zn(II) or H 2 while the other is represented as (di( p -R)Pdi(phos)P)M where R = P(O)(OEt) 2 , H or CH 3 and M = Zn(II) or H 2 .
