Evaluation of aging processes of petroleum asphalt cements by solid state electrochemical monitoring

2018

Abstract The changes in the chemistry of organosulfur compounds from asphalt cements during aging are studied using solid state voltammetry of immobilized microparticles. Five Brazilian asphalt cements were evaluated after three forced aging processes: Rolling Thin Film Oven Test (RTFOT), Pressure Aging Vessel (PAV) and SUNTEST. It was possible to identify the presence of thiophenes, sulfides and sulfoxides in the different samples and the reactional changes during the aging processes were proposed. Voltammetric data, supported by ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, indicate that aging asphalts involve the increase of the proportion of sulfoxide and thiophene components and that polythiophene compounds …

Preparation and conductivity of PEDOT encapsulated inside faujasites

2005

Poly[3,4-(ethylenedioxy)thiophene] (PEDOT) encapsulated inside the faujasite micropores has been prepared by polymerization of the monomer in partially Fe-exchanged faujasites. Faujasites containing PEDOT within the interior exhibit notable electrical conductivity compared to plain faujasite. This conductivity is attributed to the presence of polarons that have been detected by EPR spectroscopy.

Nanoparticles of AlTiZr mixed oxides as support of hydrodesulfurizaton catalysts: Synthesis and characterisation

2012

Abstract TiAlZr mixed oxides, synthesized using sol–gel method, were characterized and used as supports of hydrodesulfurization catalysts (12 wt% Mo) prepared by impregnation either with molybdenum heteropolyacid H3PMo12O40 or its cobalt salt Co1.5PMo12O40. Structure, morphology and textural properties of oxides and catalysts were characterized using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, Nitrogen adsorption porosimetry, TEM-EDS, temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) techniques. Activity of the catalytic systems was tested in thiophene hydrodesulfurization (HDS). No formation of a new oxide phase was revealed in the synthesized mixed…

Development and Characterization of Novel Conductive Nanofiller Based on Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes Grafted with Poly(3,4-Ethylenedioxythiophene)

2018

In the present study, an approach for the graft polymerization of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) has been evaluated. The surface of the MWCNTs was activated with thiophene groups through the amide linker followed by oxidative polymerization of EDOT monomer resulted in the development of PEDOT-g-MWCNTs. The methods of thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray fluorescence, and Raman spectroscopy were used for characterization of functionalization efficiency. The TGA data indicated of 21% functionalization attached to MWCNTs. X-ray fluorescence confirmed the presence of Cl, and S atoms in functionalized fillers. The study of Raman spectra confirm…

2.8NiO–H1.8Ni0.6(OH)MoO4—Novel nanocomposite material for the reactive adsorption of sulfur-containing molecules at moderate temperature

2011

Abstract It has been found that a poorly crystalline green precipitate that forms in boiling ammonia solution of Ni(NO 3 ) 2 and (NH 4 ) 6 Mo 7 O 24 yields on annealing a Ni-rich material (Ni/Mo = 3.4) containing slit shaped mesopores and exhibiting the BET surface area of 230 m 2 /g. Characterization of the material by TGA, XRD, TEM, SEM, and EXAFS allowed to determine that it is a nanocomposite consisting of Ni–Mo (hydro)oxide layers H 1.8 Ni 0.6 (OH)MoO 4 which are pillared by NiO nanoparticles ( D  = 3 nm). The structure of the layers appears to be similar to that found in the previously described crystalline molybdate (NH 4 )HNi 2 (OH) 2 (MoO 4 ) 2 prepared in the similar conditions. T…

BODIPY–diketopyrrolopyrrole–porphyrin conjugate small molecules for use in bulk heterojunction solar cells

2018

Two small molecules denoted as BD-pPor and BD-tPor composed of a central BODIPY core surrounded with two DPP and two porphyrin units have been designed and synthesized. In BD-pPor and BD-tPor, porphyrins are linked to the central BODIPY by phenyl and thiophene bridges, respectively. The optical and electrochemical properties were systematically investigated in order to employ them as donors along with PC71BM as an acceptor for solution processed bulk heterojunction organic solar cells. After the optimization of the active layer, the organic solar cells based on BD-pPor and BD-tPor exhibit overall power conversion efficiencies of 6.67% and 8.98% with an energy loss of 0.63 eV and 0.50 eV. Saddle-like, π-conjugated, cyclooctatetrathiophene-based, hole-transporting material for perovskite solar cells

2019

A flexible, saddle-like, π-conjugated skeleton composed of four fused thiophene rings forming a cyclooctatetrathiophene (CoTh) with four triphenylamines (CoTh-TTPA) is presented as a hole-transporting material (HTM) for perovskite solar cells. The new HTM shows a bright red color stemming from a direct conjugation between the TPA groups and the central CoTh scaffold. This results in a charge transfer band due to the combination of the weak acceptor moiety, the CoTh unit, and the electron-donating p-methoxytriphenylamine groups. CoTh-TTPA exhibits a suitable highest-occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) level in relation to the valence band edge of the perovskite, which ensures efficient hole ex…

Fabrication of an extremely cheap poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) modified pencil lead electrode for effective hydroquinone sensing

2021

Hydroquinone (HQ) is one of the major deleterious metabolites of benzene in the human body, which has been implicated to cause various human diseases. In order to fabricate a feasible sensor for the accurate detection of HQ, we attempted to electrochemically modify a piece of common 2B pencil lead (PL) with the conductive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) or PEDOT film to construct a PEDOT/PL electrode. We then examined the performance of PEDOT/PL in the detection of hydroquinone with different voltammetry methods. Our results have demonstrated that PEDOT film was able to dramatically enhance the electrochemical response of pencil lead electrode to hydroquinone and exhibited a good linear co…

Synthesis of phenothiazine-based di-anchoring dyes containing fluorene linker and their photovoltaic performance

2015

Abstract A new di-anchoring organic dye based on phenothiazine featuring A-D-π-D-A (acceptor-donor-π-linker-donor-acceptor) configuration with fluorene as the π linker was designed and successfully synthesized. Compared to the corresponding mono-anchoring D-A congener, this new dye exhibited a broader and stronger absorption in the light wavelength ranging from 400 nm to 600 nm and thus showed a more efficient photovoltaic performance for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The overall power conversion efficiency (η) of this new dye in a sensitized solar cell amounted to 5.70%, which is 17% higher than that of the equivalent based counterpart (4.87%). On the other hand, the introduction of …

Poly(3,4-Ethylenedioxythiophene) nanoparticles as building blocks for hybrid thermoelectric flexible films

2019

Hybrid thermoelectric flexible films based on poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes were prepared by using layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly. The employed PEDOT nanoparticles were synthesized by oxidative miniemulsion polymerization by using iron(III) p-toluenesulfonate hexahydrate (FeTos) as an oxidant and poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC) as stabilizer. Sodium deoxycholate (DOC) was used as a stabilizer to prepare the aqueous dispersions of the carbon nanotubes. Hybrid thermoelectric films were finally prepared with different monomer/oxidant molar ratios and different types of carbon nanotubes, aiming to maximize the power factor (PF). The …
