Osteosynthesetechniken bei proximalen Humerusfrakturen

2001

Determination of essential biomarkers in lung cancer: a real-world data study in Spain with demographic, clinical, epidemiological and pathological c…

2022

Abstract Background The survival of patients with lung cancer has substantially increased in the last decade by about 15%. This increase is, basically, due to targeted therapies available for advanced stages and the emergence of immunotherapy itself. This work aims to study the situation of biomarker testing in Spain. Patients and methods The Thoracic Tumours Registry (TTR) is an observational, prospective, registry-based study that included patients diagnosed with lung cancer and other thoracic tumours, from September 2016 to 2020. This TTR study was sponsored by the Spanish Lung Cancer Group (GECP) Foundation, an independent, scientific, multidisciplinary oncology society that coordinates…

Wider implications of video-assisted thoracic surgery versus open approach for lung metastasectomy

2015

ABSTRACT  Lung metastasectomy is considered a safe and potentially curative procedure despite there is not a strong evidence that metastasectomy prolongs long-term survival in patients with lung metastases. Moreover, the debate is open regarding the best approach for lung metastasectomy, video-assisted thoracic surgery versus open approach. A systematic review of literature to clarify what is the best approach to prolong survival in patients with lung metastases was performed. Our study confirms that overall survival is equivalent for video-assisted thoracic surgery and thoracotomy, therefore the ‘gold standard’ surgical treatment for lung metastases remains a point of debate. The choice o…

Systematische Analyse der Geometrie eines definierten Kontrastmittelbolus - Implikationen für die kontrastmittelverstärkte 3D-MR-Angiographie thoraka…

2005

Purpose: Little is known about the dispersion of a defined contrast bolus during its passage through the heart and pulmonary vasculature. The purpose of this study was to analyze factors influencing a defined contrast bolus for ce-MRA of thoracic vessels. Materials and Methods: For analysis of bolus geometry, an ECG-gated saturation-recovery Turbo-Flash sequence with a TI of 20 msec was used. It was acquired axially at the level of the pulmonary trunc, so that with one data acquisition a curve analysis was possible in the ascending and descending aorta, and in the pulmonary trunc. Twenty-nine patients received 3 ml of Gd-DTPA diluted with saline to a total of 20 ml. Contrast injection was d…

Left atrial strain and left atrial stiffness for early detection of cardiotoxicity in cancer patients

2021

Abstract Background Anti-cancer drugs can cause cardiovascular complications. Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and global longitudinal strain (GLS) are usually used to identify clinical and subclinical cardiotoxicity. Purpose The aim of our study was to assess the addictional role of left atrial reservoir strain (LAS-S) and left atrial stiffness (LASI – the ratio of E/e' to LAS-S) in identifying patients at higher risk of cardiotoxicity. Methods 102 breast cancer patients (median age 53±9.5 years), without cardiovascular diseases, were enrolled before starting chemotherapy. Electrocardiogram and transthoracic echocardiogram (conventional measurements based on EACVI recommendations;…

Preclinical atherosclerosis and metabolic syndrome increase cardio- and cerebrovascular events rate: a 20-year follow up

2013

BACKGROUND: Intima-media thickness (IMT) is a validated marker of preclinical atherosclerosis and a predictor of cardiovascular events. PATIENTS: We studied a population of 529 asymptomatic patients (age 62 ± 12.8 years), divided into two groups of subjects with and without Metabolic Syndrome (MetS). METHODS: All patients, at baseline, have had a carotid ultrasound evaluation and classified in two subgroups: the first one without atherosclerotic lesions and the second one with preclinical atherosclerosis (increased IMT or asymptomatic carotid plaque). Cardiovascular endpoints were investigated in a 20-years follow-up. RESULTS: There were 242 cardiovascular events: 144 among patients with Me…

Non-coronary atherosclerosis

2014

International audience; During the last decades, the clinical and research interest in atherosclerosis has been mostly focused on coronary arteries. After the publications of the European Society Guidelines and AHA/ACC Guidelines on Peripheral artery diseases, and of the Registry REduction in Atherothrombosis for Continued Health Registry, there has been an increased interest in atherosclerosis of the lower extremity arteries and its presence in multifocal disease. However, awareness in the general population and the medical community of non-coronary artery diseases, and of its major prognostic implications remain relatively low. The aim of this general review stemming out of an ESC Working…

From anti-fouling to biofilm inhibition: New cytotoxic secondary metabolites from two Indonesian Agelas sponges

2010

Chemical investigation of Indonesian marine sponges Agelas linnaei and A. nakamurai afforded 24 alkaloid derivatives representing either bromopyrrole or diterpene alkaloids. A. linnaei yielded 16 bromopyrrole alkaloids including 11 new natural products with the latter exhibiting unusual functionalities. The new compounds include the first iodinated tyramine-unit bearing pyrrole alkaloids, agelanesins A-D. These compounds exhibited cytotoxic activity against L5178Y mouse lymphoma cells with IC(50) values between 9.25 and 16.76 muM. Further new compounds include taurine acid substituted bromopyrrole alkaloids and a new dibromophakellin derivative. A. nakamurai yielded eight alkaloids among th…

Large hiatal hernia at chest radiography in a woman with cardiorespiratory symptoms

2012

Hiatal hernia (HH) is a frequent entity. Rarely, it may exert a wide spectrum of clinical presentations mimicking acute cardiovascular events such as angina-like chest pain until manifestations of cardiac compression that can include postprandial syncope, exercise intolerance, respiratory function, recurrent acute heart failure, and hemodynamic collapse. A 69-year-old woman presented to the emergency department complaining of fatigue on exertion, cough, and episodes of restrosternal pain with less than 1 hour of duration. Her medical history only included some episodes of bronchitis and no history of hypertension. The 12-lead electrocardiogram demonstrated sinus rhythm with right bundle-bra…
