Sosiomateriaalinen näkökulma vuorovaikutukseen muuttuvissa työtiloissa

2022

Sputum metalloproteinase-9/tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 ratio correlates with airflow obstruction in asthma and chronic bronchitis

1998

Asthma and chronic bronchitis are inflammatory diseases with extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling and collagen deposition. Collagen homeostasis is controlled by metalloproteinases (MMPs) and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs). We evaluated MMP and TIMP balance in induced sputum of 10 control, 31 untreated asthmatic, and 16 chronic bronchitic subjects. We first performed zymographic analysis to identify the profile of MMPs. Zymography revealed a similar MMPs profile in all populations studied and that MMP-9 was the major enzyme released. We then measured, using enzyme immunoassay, the concentrations of MMP-9 and of its inhibitor TIMP-1 and evaluated whether airflow limitation m…

ETP/GDOP Behavior Study for N-Sensors Arrays ina Multilateration Radar System

2009

In this paper, we evaluated the ETP (Expected Theoretical Precision) and GDOP (Geometric Dilution Of Precision) enhancement related to the number of sensors in a Multilateration radar system. An introduction about the principles of the Multilateration radar system basis operation is described, then, the formulation for evaluation the ETP/GDOP of the 3D positioning is shown. We observed that the ETP and GDOP enhance with the increase of the number of sensors. A substantial improvement was obtained until nine sensors but, for more sensors that improvement is reduced. Results for a 75km×75km area are shown, including LAM (Local Area Multilateration) and WAM (Wide Area Multilateration) settings…

Advances in ventilatory treatment for OSAS

2021

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the most widely used treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and was established four decades ago. An alternative option is to use bilevel ventilation, in order to improve compliance to treatment especially in patients who need a high therapeutic pressure to prevent nocturnal respiratory events. Automatic CPAP or bilevel ventilation are also established among OSA therapeutic choices, and are generally indicated in cases of highly variable therapeutic pressure. The major advances in the field regard OSAS in the context of uncomplicated obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS), in which either CPAP or bilevel ventilation yield comparable result…

Previously undiagnosed Reinke edema as a cause of immediate postextubation inspiratory stridor

2015

Reinke edema (RE) is an uncommon lesion of the vocal folds and a potential cause of complications during airway management. We report the case of a woman with previously unknown RE admitted to the intensive care unit who experienced postextubation inspiratory stridor immediately after separation from mechanical ventilation. RE should be considered among causes of postextubation stridor.

Antioxidation and the Hypoxic Ventilatory Response

2012

Reactive oxygen species favor the reductive state of iron. Antioxidation, by depleting biologically active ferrous iron, could then have a stabilizing effect, akin to hypoxia, on HIF-1α; the process which controls the genetic responses to hypoxia. However, the influence of antioxidation on the hypoxic ventilatory responses (HVR) is unclear. In this study we set out to determine the influence of mangiferin, a natural polyphenolic compound present in mango trees, with strong antioxidant and iron chelating properties, on the HVR. The study was performed in awake Wistar rats. Acute HVR to 12% and 8% FiO2 before and 40 min after mangiferin (300 mg/kg, i.p.) pretreatment were recorded plethysmogr…

Baclofenintoxikation bei chronischer Hämodialyse und Nierentransplantation

2008

Fourteen days after renal transplantation, at first gave with good transplant function, a 36-year-old woman developed neurogenic dysfunction of bladder emptying. This was treated with baclofen, 5 mg three times daily by mouth. Between the 7th and 10th treatment day she progressively developed an organic psychotic syndrome and increasing respiratory paralysis after the onset of renal failure, associated with rejection of the transplanted kidney which required dialysis. Plasma concentration of baclofen was 565 ng/ml (therapeutic range 80-400 ng/ml). After discontinuing the drug and renewed haemodialysis the baclofen level rapidly fell and the symptoms receded. In a second case, a 57-year-old …

Rationale, study design, and analysis plan of the Alveolar Recruitment for ARDS Trial (ART): study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

2012

Abstract Background Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is associated with high in-hospital mortality. Alveolar recruitment followed by ventilation at optimal titrated PEEP may reduce ventilator-induced lung injury and improve oxygenation in patients with ARDS, but the effects on mortality and other clinical outcomes remain unknown. This article reports the rationale, study design, and analysis plan of the Alveolar Recruitment for ARDS Trial (ART). Methods/Design ART is a pragmatic, multicenter, randomized (concealed), controlled trial, which aims to determine if maximum stepwise alveolar recruitment associated with PEEP titration is able to increase 28-day survival in patients with …
