Using altered states of consciousness in improvisational music therapy : the potential of resonance frequency breathing

Improvisational music therapy is a type of creative arts therapy in which clients are encouraged to express themselves through the symbolic and non-verbal medium of music, by creating free music improvisations together with the therapist. The present research aims at investigating whether the efficacy of this method can be further enhanced by purposefully accessing the ego-quieting properties of altered states of consciousness. Surrogate-assisted evolutionary multiobjective shape optimization of an air intake ventilation system

We tackle three different challenges in solving a real-world industrial problem: formulating the optimization problem, connecting different simulation tools and dealing with computationally expensive objective functions. The problem to be optimized is an air intake ventilation system of a tractor and consists of three computationally expensive objective functions. We describe the modeling of the system and its numerical evaluation with a commercial software. To obtain solutions in few function evaluations, a recently proposed surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithm K-RVEA is applied. Opinnäytetyö käsittelee Turun Sanomissa käytyä keskustelua taiteilijoiden työhuoneista ennen Euroopan kulttuuripääkaupunkivuotta 2011. Pääaineisto koskee vuosia 2006–2008. Tuona aikana taiteilijat menettivät pitkään työtiloina toimineen Jokikadun kiinteistön ja joutuivat odottamaan pitkään vastaavia tiloja. Taiteilijat ylläpitivät keskustelua ja peräänkuuluttivat oikeuksiaan työtiloihin. Samaan aikaan vaihtoehtotaiteilijat järjestivät alakulttuuritapahtumia ja talonvaltauksia. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on esittää käydystä keskustelusta kokonaiskuva ja selvittää mitkä asiat on esitetty ongelmalliseksi. Imetys on feministiseltä kannalta kiinnostava tutkimusaihe, koska siihen liittyy keskusteluja sekä äidin että lapsen oikeuksista, samalla kun siihen liittyvät vahvasti normatiiviset odotukset esimerkiksi imetyksen keston sopivasta pituudesta tai imetyksen sopivuudesta julkiseen tilaan. Artikkelini soveltaa queer-teoreettisia käsitteitä imetystutkimukseen. Pohdin artikkelissa imetykseen liitettävää normatiivisuutta Sara Ahmedin teoretisointia soveltaen, ja tarkastelen julkisen imetyksen haasteita kaapin metaforan avulla. Aineistona käytän suomalaisten yli vuoden imettäneiden äitien kirjoituksia, joiden avulla pohdin imetyksen suhdetta tilaan ja normeihin. Artikkeli osoittaa, että osa äideist…
