This study presents a new approach to estimation of a nonlinear growth curve component with fixed and random effects in multilevel modeling. This approach can be used to estimate change in longitudinal data, such as day-of-the-week fluctuation. The motivation of the new approach is to avoid spurious estimates in a random coefficient regression model due to the synchronized periodical effect (e.g., day-of-the-week fluctuation) appearing both in independent and dependent variables. In this paper we consider the problem of online detection of gradual and abrupt changes in sensor data having high levels of noise and outliers. We propose a simple heuristic method based on the Quantile Index (QI) and study how robust this method is for detecting both gradual and abrupt changes with such data. We evaluate the performance of our method on the artificially generated and real datasets that represent different operational settings of a pilot circulating fluidized bed (CFB) reactor and CFB cold model. In this paper we evaluate user-equipment (UE) positioning performance of three cluster-based RF fingerprinting methods using LTE and WLAN signals. Real-life LTE and WLAN data were collected for the evaluation purpose using consumer cellular-mobile handset utilizing ‘Nemo Handy’ drive test software tool. Test results of cluster-based methods were compared to the conventional grid-based RF fingerprinting. This study examined the role of family-related (mother’s education, depressive symptoms and child’s gender) and kindergarten-related (teacher’s experience, teaching practices and class size) factors in mothers’ and teachers’ mutual trust in Estonia and Finland. Six hundred eighteen (206 Estonian and 412 Finnish) mothers of kindergarten children and their teachers (26 Estonian, 49 Finnish) were participated in the study.
