Causalidad en salud laboral: el caso ardystil

1995

Associated arterial and venous cerebral manifestations in Behçet's disease

2018

Behcet's disease is a rare multisystemic vasculitis with an etiology that is still unknown. Neurological manifestations may be seen in approximately 5-15% of patients, and both parenchymal and extraparenchymal neurological involvement has been described. When cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is the main extraparenchymal manifestation of Behcet's disease, the condition is then dubbed "angio-Behcet's syndrome". However, arterial involvement is extremely rare, with only one reported case of vasculo-neuro-Behcet's disease, characterized by both venous and intracranial arterial involvement - until now. This report is of two patients diagnosed with Behcet's disease characterized by the concomitan…

When and how to treat acute hepatitis C?

2003

Background: Appropriate treatment of acute hepatitis C is still a matter of controversy due to the lack of large controlled trials. Aim: To assess the effectiveness of interferon as treatment for acute hepatitis C by meta-analysis. Methods: MEDLINE search (1985-2002) was supplemented with manual searches of reference lists. Studies were included if they were controlled trials comparing interferon to no treatment and if they included patients with either post-transfusion or sporadic acute hepatitis C. Twelve trials were analyzed (414 patients). The outcome assessed was the sustained virological response (SVR) rate (undetectable hepatitis C virus RNA in serum at least 6 months after cessation…

Poly-Victimization in Polish Adolescents: Risk Factors and the Moderating Role of Coping.

2018

This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of poly-victimization in Polish adolescents and assess factors associated with poly-victimization risk across different ecological levels. This study further examined whether coping styles could moderate the impact of poly-victimization on emotional well-being. Participants were 454 adolescents, aged between 13 and 19 years, from an urban region of Poland. Adolescents completed self-report measures assessing community, school, and family risks, along with a peer nomination task measuring social preference. Teachers also completed a measure assessing adolescent problem behaviors. Findings revealed that the majority of the sample (70%) experience…

Do child abuse and maltreatment increase risk of schizophrenia?

2012

INTRODUCTION: IntroductionaaAlthough childhood abuse is a recognised risk factor for depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance misuse, its role in the aetiology of psychotic disorder remained controversial. This is in part because the putative effect of childhood trauma on psychosis has been mostly evaluated by small, cross sectional, uncontrolled studies that raised methodological issues. METHODS: Papers concerning the association between childhood trauma and psychotic disorders (to November, 2011) were identified using a comprehensive search of PubMed, Psychinfo, and Scopus and analysing reference list of relevant papers. A narrative synthesis was used to summarise results…

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on incidence, time of diagnosis and delivery of healthcare among paediatric oncology patients in Germany in 2020: Evi…

2021

ABSTRACT Background The indirect impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cancer care and timely diagnosis is of increasing concern. We investigated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on incidence, time of diagnosis and delivery of healthcare among paediatric oncology patients in Germany in 2020. Methods We analysed incident paediatric cancer cases diagnosed in 0- to 17-year olds in Germany in 2020 using data of the German Childhood Cancer Registry. Absolute numbers and age-standardised incidence rates (ASR) in 2020 were compared to the previous five years (2015–2019). Moreover, we conducted a survey with open-ended questions, gathering perceptions of the diagnostic process and healthcare delive…

Pain reduction by dehydrated human amnion/chorion membrane allograft in nondiabetic leg ulcers might be an early indicator of good response: A case s…

2020

Dehydrated human amnion/chorion membrane allograft (dHACM) derived from placenta is increasingly used for skin and soft tissue repair in several medical specialties. Promising effects of dHACM were also reported in chronic venous and diabetic leg ulcers. However, dHACM is cost-intensive and its effect on chronic leg ulcers of other etiologies and pain reduction is unknown. Clinical predictors of a favorable response to dHACM during the early treatment period could help to limit unnecessary costs. In our case series with six patients suffering from chronic lower leg ulcers of various etiology, the effect of dHACM once per week on reduction of pain and wound size during a 5-week period was ex…

Gene regulatory networks elucidating Huanglongbing disease mechanisms

2013

Next-generation sequencing was exploited to gain deeper insight into the response to infection by Candidatus liberibacter asiaticus (CaLas), especially the immune disregulation and metabolic dysfunction caused by source-sink disruption. Previous fruit transcriptome data were compared with additional RNA-Seq data in three tissues: immature fruit, and young and mature leaves. Four categories of orchard trees were studied: symptomatic, asymptomatic, apparently healthy, and healthy. Principal component analysis found distinct expression patterns between immature and mature fruits and leaf samples for all four categories of trees. A predicted protein - protein interaction network identified HLB-…

Transcriptome profiling of citrus fruit response to huanglongbing disease.

2010

Huanglongbing (HLB) or "citrus greening" is the most destructive citrus disease worldwide. In this work, we studied host responses of citrus to infection with Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CaLas) using next-generation sequencing technologies. A deep mRNA profile was obtained from peel of healthy and HLB- affected fruit. It was followed by pathway and protein-protein network analysis and quantitative real time PCR analysis of highly regulated genes. We identified differentially regulated pathways and constructed networks that provide a deep insight into the metabolism of affected fruit. Data mining revealed that HLB enhanced transcription of genes involved in the light reactions of phot…

A two-phase problem with Robin conditions on the free boundary

2020

We study for the first time a two-phase free boundary problem in which the solution satisfies a Robin boundary condition. We consider the case in which the solution is continuous across the free boundary and we prove an existence and a regularity result for minimizers of the associated variational problem. Finally, in the appendix, we give an example of a class of Steiner symmetric minimizers. peerReviewed
