Automatic research of the capitalization rate for the residential automated valuation: an experimental study in Cosenza (Italy).
2017
When a market oriented approach is not applicable because of the lack of comparable sales data (Ciuna et al. 2014a), International Valuation Standards suggest the use of the Income Approach, which has the task of simulating the market through an economic and financial scheme. The central question of this approach is due to the quantification of the capitalization rate, whereas it is generally extracted in a market segment different from that of the subject. This paper intends to propose an automated valuation model of the capitalization rate based on a real estate database built through a computerized geocoding automatic procedure, starting from the application of statistical models of mult…
Presenting a Multi-level Superstructure Optimization Approach for Mechatronic System Design
2010
Synergism and integration in the design process is what sets apart a Mechatronic System from a traditional, multidisciplinary system. However the typical design approach has been to divide the design problem into sub problems for each technology area (mechanics, electronics and control) and describe the interface between the technologies, whereas the lack of well-established, systematic engineering methods to form the basic set-off in analysis and design of complete mechatronic systems has been obvious. The focus of the current paper is therefore to present an integrated design approach for mechatronic system design, utilizing a multi-level superstructure optimization based approach. Finall…
Automated single ring infiltrometer with a low-cost microcontroller circuit
2015
Automation of a new single ring infiltrometer.Data acquisition system based on the open source microcontroller platform Arduino.New method to minimize the disturbance of the soil surface.New approach to process transducer output. A method to automate data collection with a compact infiltrometer under constant head conditions was developed. The infiltrometer consists of a containment ring with a small quasi-constant head of water (i.e., 2-3mm) that is controlled by a Mariotte reservoir and a data acquisition system based on the open source microcontroller platform Arduino and a differential pressure transducer. The presented design can be easily reproduced and operated. The infiltrometer was …
MECDAS/spl minus/a distributed data acquisition system for experiments at MAMI
1994
For coincidence experiments with the three-spectrometer setup at MAMI an experiment control and data acquisition system has been built and was put successfully into final operation in 1992. MECDAS is designed as a distributed system using communication via Ethernet and optical links. At the front end, VMEbus systems are used for real time purposes and direct hardware access via CAMAC, Fastbus or VMEbus. RISC workstations running UNIX are used for monitoring, data archiving and online and offline analysis of the experiment. MECDAS consists of several fixed programs and libraries, but large parts of readout and analysis can be configured by the user. Experiment specific configuration files ar…
Greenfield FDI attractiveness index: a machine learning approach
2022
Purpose This study aims to propose a comprehensive greenfield foreign direct investment (FDI) attractiveness index using exploratory factor analysis and automated machine learning (AML). We offer offer a robust empirical measurement of location-choice factors identified in the FDI literature through a novel method and provide a tool for assessing the countries' investment potential. Design/methodology/approach Based on five conceptual key sub-domains of FDI, We collected quantitative indicators in several databases with annual data ranging from 2006 to 2019. This study first run a factor analysis to identify the most important features. It then uses AML to assess the relative importance of…
Automatic image-based identification and biomass estimation of invertebrates
2020
1. Understanding how biological communities respond to environmental changes is a key challenge in ecology and ecosystem management. The apparent decline of insect populations necessitates more biomonitoring but the time-consuming sorting and expert-based identification of taxa pose strong limitations on how many insect samples can be processed. In turn, this affects the scale of efforts to map and monitor invertebrate diversity altogether. Given recent advances in computer vision, we propose to enhance the standard human expert-based identification approach involving manual sorting and identification with an automatic image-based technology. 2. We describe a robot-enabled image-based ident…
Human experts vs. machines in taxa recognition
2020
The step of expert taxa recognition currently slows down the response time of many bioassessments. Shifting to quicker and cheaper state-of-the-art machine learning approaches is still met with expert scepticism towards the ability and logic of machines. In our study, we investigate both the differences in accuracy and in the identification logic of taxonomic experts and machines. We propose a systematic approach utilizing deep Convolutional Neural Nets with the transfer learning paradigm and extensively evaluate it over a multi-pose taxonomic dataset with hierarchical labels specifically created for this comparison. We also study the prediction accuracy on different ranks of taxonomic hier…
Improved automated synthesis of [18F]fluoroethylcholine as a radiotracer for cancer imaging.
2007
[(18)F]Fluoroethylcholine has been recently introduced as a promising (18)F-labelled analogue of [(11)C]choline which had been previously described as a tracer for metabolic cancer imaging with positron emission tomography (PET). Due to the practical advantages of using the longer-lived radioisotope (18)F (t(1/2)=110 min), offering the opportunity of a more widespread clinical application, we established a reliable, fully automated synthesis for its production using a modified, commercially available module. [(18)F]Fluoroethylcholine was prepared from N,N-dimethylaminoethanol by iodide catalyzed alkylation with 1-[(18)F]fluoro-2-tosylethane as alkylating agent, resulting in a total radioche…
Liquid chromatography‐Orbitrap Tribrid high‐resolution mass spectrometry using data dependent‐tandem mass spectrometry with triple stage fragmentatio…
2021
A new, fast, and automatic approach has been applied for the tentative identification of unknown substances released by food contact epoxy resin after performing a migration test with food simulant. This approach combines intelligent data acquisition with AcquireX linked to liquid chromatography-Orbitrap Tribrid high-resolution mass spectrometry using data dependent-tandem mass spectrometry with triple stage fragmentation coupled to Compound Discoverer™ software for automated data processing and compound identification. The identification of the observed features was performed using a set of identification criteria, including exact mass, isotope pattern, tandem mass spectrometry spectra mat…
Mechanical properties of basalt fiber reinforced composites manufactured with different vacuum assisted impregnation techniques
2016
Abstract This work describes an experimental mechanical characterisation campaign on composites made out of a quasi-unidirectional basalt fabric. In order to evaluate the ability of commercial basalt fabrics and their composites to meet the potentials of basalt fibers, the work has used raw materials from commercial catalogs with no further modification. Two common manufacturing techniques for medium performance composites have been adopted: vacuum assisted resin infusion, and hand-impregnated vacuum bagging. Two panels, one for each technique, have been fabricated, able to provide a sufficient number of samples for a comprehensive stiffness and strength characterization through Tensile, Fl…
