L’article présente une étude ethnoarchéologique dont l’objectif est de cerner les principales caractéristiques de la pratique de la tombe collective dans les sociétés traditionnelles de l’île de Sumba (Indonésie) et de montrer comment les éléments recueillis peuvent nous conduire à modifier notre manière d’appréhender les tombes collectives du Néolithique européen. Les sociétés sélectionnées sont les dernières au monde à construire des monuments mégalithiques dans le but d’en faire des tombes collectives. I argue that apart from its other literary intentions already mentioned by scholars, this digression implicitly connects Titus not only with Aeneas but also with Julius Caesar. La necrópolis de la barriada de Orriols (Valencia) se levanta sobre una pequeña elevación del terreno en relación con la Vía Augusta. Se trata de un cementerio periurbano que estuvo en uso entre los siglos II y IV d. C. Los enterramientos responden a los rituales de cremación e inhumación, lo que nos ha permitido constatar dos fases cronológicas durante las que se emplean otras prácticas funerarias.
