Haemoptysis: a frequent diagnostic challenge

We appreciate and agree with the comments of M. Mondoni and colleagues, that the results of the ongoing prospective Italian multicentre trial ([www.ClinicalTrial.gov][1] identifier [NCT02045394][2]) will be of considerable interest for the management of haemoptysis, a frequent and severe symptom, especially since there is no clear consensus concerning aetiology and treatment. Despite the wealth of experience in the management of asthma, the disease remains inadequately controlled in some patients, who face long-term respiratory impairment and disability. The disease has been characterised as an inflammatory condition affecting first the larger airways and eventually the smaller airways, but there is evidence that peripheral airway involvement defines a particular and more severe phenotype of asthma. Congenital pulmonary airway malformation in adult: report of two rare cases and literature review

Congenital pulmonary airway malformations (CPAMs) are a heterogeneous group of congenital, non-hereditary lesions of the lung, cystic and non-cystic type with clear developmental anomalies and evident malformative changes, which derive from the excessive proliferation of the tubular bronchial structures. We described two rare cases of type IV CPAM detected in adult patients with different clinical presentation: one of these cases was symptomatic, complaining of cough and hemoptysis. Mechanostructural adaptations preceding postpneumonectomy lung growth

In many species, pneumonectomy results in compensatory growth in the remaining lung. Although the late mechanical consequences of murine pneumonectomy are known, little is known about the anatomic adaptations and respiratory mechanics during compensatory lung growth. To investigate the structural and mechanical changes during compensatory growth, mice were studied for 21 days after left pneumonectomy using microCT and respiratory system impedance (FlexiVent). Anatomic changes after left pneumonectomy included minimal mediastinal shift or chestwall remodeling, but significant displacement of the heart and cardiac lobe. Fibre bonds play an essential role in various properties of paper. Much research has focused on their strength, but the determination of the actual contact area also provides a challenge. Many of the research methods rely on optical tools, which are restricted by the wavelength of light that is utilised. A Tomographical Characterization of L-convex Polyominoes

Our main purpose is to characterize the class of L-convex polyominoes introduced in [3] by means of their horizontal and vertical projections. The achieved results allow an answer to one of the most relevant questions in tomography i.e. the uniqueness of discrete sets, with respect to their horizontal and vertical projections. In this paper, by giving a characterization of L-convex polyominoes, we investigate the connection between uniqueness property and unimodality of vectors of horizontal and vertical projections. In the last section we consider the continuum environment; we extend the definition of L-convex set, and we obtain some results analogous to those for the discrete case.

Abstract The synthesis of the novel glucose conjugated O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) inhibitor 2-amino-6-(2-[18F]fluoro-pyridine-4-ylmethoxy)-9-(octyl-α- d -glucosyl)-purine is reported. This compound might serve as a radiotracer for the determination of the MGMT status of tumour tissue.
