We have recently shown that the aggregation factor (AF) from the sponge Geodia cydonium stimulates DNA synthesis in quiescent, dissociated cells from the same organism; this event was correlated with the release of the two second messengers: inositol trisphosphate and diacylglycerol. Here we describe that after binding of the AF to the plasma membrane-bound aggregation receptor, a rapid and drastic increase in the incorporation of 32Pi into a series of proteins in the pore complex-lamina fraction occurs. Virion cap-pol catalyses transcription of the plus (sense)-strand; this is extruded from the virus and serves as messenger for synthesis of cap and cap-pol. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is considered an important mediator of acute inflammatory responses. Moreover, IL-6 functions as a differentiation and growth factor of hematopoietic precursor cells, B-cells, T-cells, keratinocytes, neuronal cells, osteoclasts and endothelial cells. IL-6 exhibits its action via a receptor complex consisting of a specific IL-6 receptor (IL-6R) and a signal-transducing subunit (gp130). Soluble forms of both receptor components are generated by shedding and are found in patients with various diseases such as AIDS, rheumatoid arthritis and others. Osteoblasts are not only responsible for bone formation. They also support hematopoiesis. This requires responding to cues originating from several signaling pathways, a task performed by Rho GTPases. We therefore examined several transgenic mouse models and used inhibitors of Cdc42 in vitro. Deletion of Cdc42 in vivo using the Osterix promoter suppressed osteoblast function, while its deletion in differentiating osteoblasts using the Collagen-a1(I) promoter decreased osteoblast numbers. In both cases, bone mineral density diminished confirming the importance of Cdc42. Abstract Retroviral vectors are currently the most suitable vehicles for therapeutic gene transfer in hematopoietic stem cells. However, these vectors are known to integrate rather randomly throughout the genome, suffering the so called chromosomal position effects (PE). Abstract The duplication of the eukaryotic genome is an intricate process that has to be tightly safe‐guarded. One of the most frequently occurring errors during DNA synthesis is the mis‐insertion of a ribonucleotide instead of a deoxyribonucleotide. Ribonucleotide excision repair (RER) is initiated by RNase H2 and results in error‐free removal of such mis‐incorporated ribonucleotides. If left unrepaired, DNA‐embedded ribonucleotides result in a variety of alterations within chromosomal DNA, which ultimately lead to genome instability. Hunter syndrome is a rare, X-linked disorder caused by a deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme iduronate-2-sulfatase. In the absence of sufficient enzyme activity, glycosaminoglycans accumulate in the lysosomes of many tissues and organs and contribute to the multisystem, progressive pathologies seen in Hunter syndrome. A NONHEALING ULCER DIAGNOSED AS EXTRAMEDULLARY PLASMOCYTOMA OF THE LIMB EIGHT YEARS AFTER CARDIAC TRANSPLANTATION

A 63-year-old man was hospitalized for a nonhealing ulcer of the left lower leg that appeared 8 years after orthotopic cardiac transplantation under immunosuppressive therapy including cyclosporine. Serum protein electrophoresis, immunofixation, and urinalysis revealed a monoclonal gammopathy IgG kappa. The final diagnosis of an extramedullary plasmocytoma was made by biopsy of the ulcer, which showed formations of plasmablastic cells. We report a rare case of extramedullary plasmocytoma as a posttransplantational malignancy.
