Étude exploratoire des obstacles à la transition universitaire selon le vécu d’étudiants français et belges

2020

International audience; Transition to Higher Education constitutes a challenging adjustment step for students that deserves major investigation. Yet, the transition obstacles are still overlooked. Most of international studies focused on individual predictors of adjustment and consider transition to Higher Education as a universal and invariant process. However, contextual characteristics of educational environment should be considered because they don’t imply the same requirements for adjustment. In order to address this limitation, this paper realized an exploratory comparison of first year student experience between a French and a Belgian university. The results highlighted similarities …

COMPREHENSIVE TEACHER’S PROFESSIONALISM FOR CONTENT AND LANGUAGE INTEGRATED PROVISION

2019

T opicality of the problem is determined by several factors as well as the amendments on the Education Law and the General Education Law, which provide for a gradual transition to the acquisition of general secondary education in Latvian only, educational content reform and teachers experience to work in an ethnically and linguistically heterogeneous environment. The aim of the study is to analyse comprehensive school teachers theoretical background and practice experience to work in the content and language integrated teaching and learning approach. Because language not a subject only but a mean of acquiring other subjects in the comprehensive school, too, all teachers need theoretical kno…

The impact of learning difficulties and socioemotional and behavioural problems on transition to postsecondary education or work life in Finland: a f…

2016

AbstractLearning difficulties have been found to dilute the possibilities that young adults have in their educational careers. However, during the last few decades, education has become increasingly important for employment and overall life satisfaction. In the present study, we were interested in the effects of mathematical and reading difficulties and socioemotional and behavioural problems (measured at age 16) on three educational situations at age 21: delayed graduation from upper secondary education, short educational trajectory and not being engaged in education, employment or training (NEET). The participants (N = 597; 304 females, 293 males) were one age cohort of ninth graders in g…

MINDO/3 Study of the Rearrangement of 1-Methylcyclohexyl Cation to 1,2-Dimethylcyclopentyl Cation

1986

The rearrangement of the 1-methylcyclohexyl cation to the 1,2-dimethylcyclopentyl cation has been studied by MINDO/3 calculations, as an application of the branching mechanism model for cycloalkanes. Possible intermediates and transition states have been characterized by diagonalization of their Hessian matrixes. Two nonequivalent pathways, α and β scissions, are relatively close in energy. The calculated transition states are almost equivalent in energy to those found for cyclohexyl cation. Hence, the energy barriers are higher for the rearrangement of the 1-methyl than for cyclohexyl cation, because the former is less stable than the latter.

Theoretical study of degenerate Boulton-Katritzky rearrangements. Semiempirical and ab initio procedures

1998

Abstract A theoretical study of degenerate Boulton–Katritzky rearrangements concerning the anions of the 3-formylamino-1,2,4-oxadiazole, 3-formylmethyl-isoxazole and 3-hydroxy-iminomethyl-1,2,5-oxadiazole has been carried out by using semiempirical MNDO and ab initio Hartree–Fock procedures. Different transition structures and reactive pathways were obtained in the two cases. Semiempirical treatment shows asymmetrical transition states and non-concerted processes via symmetrical intermediates. By contrast, ab initio procedures describe concerted and synchronous processes involving symmetrically-located transition states. Some comments and criticisms on the theoretical treatment of these typ…

From magnetic to nonlinear optical switches in spin-crossover complexes

2013

ISI Document Delivery No.: 109TF Times Cited: 0 Cited Reference Count: 173 Lacroix, Pascal G. Malfant, Isabelle Real, Jose-Antonio Rodriguez, Vincent Wiley-v c h verlag gmbh Weinheim Si; Various attempts to combine magnetic and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties in a molecule are reviewed, with a special focus on the possibility of interplay between the magnetic component and the quadratic (proportional to E-2) NLO response. This multidisciplinary research leads to the idea of spin-crossover-induced (SCO-induced) NLO switching and is evaluated at the synthetic level, with insights provided by computational chemistry. The need for nontraditional experimental setups to record NLO properties i…

PyDSC: a simple tool to treat differential scanning calorimetry data

2020

AbstractHerein, we describe an open-source, Python-based, script to treat the output of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) experiments, called pyDSC, available free of charge for download at https://github.com/leonardo-chiappisi/pyDSC under a GNU General Public License v3.0. The main aim of this program is to provide the community with a simple program to analyze raw DSC data. Key features include the correction from spurious signals, and, most importantly, the baseline is computed with a robust, physically consistent approach. We also show that the baseline correction routine implemented in the script is significantly more reproducible than different standard ones proposed by propriet…

Humidity Sensing by Polymer-Loaded UHF RFID Antennas

2012

Passive ultra high-frequency radio frequency identification tags, besides item labeling, are also able to exploit capability to sense the physical state of the tagged object as well as of the surrounding environment. Here, a new family of polymer-doped tags are proposed and fully characterized for the detection of ambient humidity. A sensitive chemical species based on PEDOT:PSS is used to load a shaped slot, carved into a folded-like patch tag. The communication and sensing capabilities of the resulting radio-sensor are investigated by means of simulation and measurements that show how to control and balance above opposite requirements by a proper deposition of the sensitive material. The …

Investigating the cooling rate dependence of amorphous silica: A computer simulation study

1996

We use molecular dynamics computer simulations to study the dependence of the properties of amorphous silica on the cooling rate with which the glass has been produced. In particular we show that the density, the glass transition temperature, the radial distribution function and the distribution of the size of the rings depend on the cooling rate.

The Induction Phase as a Critical Transition for Newly Qualified Teachers

2012

This chapter addresses the issue of becoming a teacher, with the induction phase as a critical transition from initial teacher education to the lifelong professional learning of teachers, and mentoring as a tool of support. It presents newly qualified teachers’ views on initial teacher education and discusses the need for fostering the connection between teacher training and the induction year. New teachers’ views on teacher induction and mentoring are based on research findings in Finland and other Nordic countries. Another important question addresses how initial teacher education can facilitate the metamorphosis of a student teacher into an autonomous teacher. The new teachers’ experienc…
